System Interconnection & Standards Manager
The System Interconnection & Standards Manager is responsible for management of interconnection projects, as well as overseeing the development, implementation and administration of the Authority’s engineering design and construction standards. The goal of the design and construction standards will be to ensure a consistent methodology exists across the Authority’s asset base, and to govern the process of expanding the Authority’s generation and transmission system according to specific design criteria in order to support the process of connectivity according to the NYISO Open Access Transmission Tariff.
Manage Authority interests as administrative and technical point of contact for developer interconnection projects for both on-going and planned projects.
Interface with internal and external planning, engineering, project management and compliance staff.
Supervise the development, implementation and administrative maintenance of a comprehensive set of generation, substation and transmission design and construction standards for the Authority’s operating system and service territory.
Ensure standards cover the full range of technical disciplines, incorporating industry best practices and regulatory compliance requirements.
Ensure standards promote safety through consistency; provide a cost-savings benefit to operations and maintenance as well as extend the asset life-cycle of equipment by reducing the number of variations; and facilitate the timely and efficient process by which the Authority’s ownership area and assets are modified and developed.
Cooperate with all Authority station and corporate personnel through committee engagement to endorse design philosophies and operating principles for application to all statewide locations.
Knowledge of NYISO OATT and experience in the planning, evaluation and management of interconnection projects.
Knowledge in the area of planning, design and construction of generating resources, transmission grade substations and overhead and underground transmission networks, to include the equipment specification and procurement process.
Strongly versed in the areas of mutual collaboration and stakeholder management.
Basic knowledge of computer-based engineering analysis programs.
Basic understanding and familiarity with NERC/NPCC standards.
Working knowledge of computer based office programs for word processing.
Working knowledge of industry codes and standards such as IEEE, ISA, ANSI, ASME, ASCE, NEC, and NESC.
Technical and self-motivated nature.
Ability to manage and work and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Excellent interpersonal skills; good written and verbal communication skills; possess the ability to effectively present complex technical ideas to a broad audience.
Approximately 25% travel.
Valid NYS Driver’s License.
Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses is preferred
10-15 years of experience in electric utility engineering design and construction or project management. Relevance to open access interconnection is preferred.
Full-cycle project experience from early planning to final turnover is preferred.
Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering-related discipline, or equivalent, from an accredited academic institution. An advanced degree is preferred.
NYS Professional Engineer License is preferred.
