The Real Estate for Siting of Renewables Director will be responsible for leveraging contacts in the real estate and utility field to locate appropriate sites for the construction of new renewable clean energy projects.#LI-CJ1

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Renewables Development team on real estate aspects for utility scale renewable energy projects across New York State

  • Provide critical input to the Origination and Project Development Team regarding site identification and acquisition strategy

  • Lead development of a streamlined process for site acquisitions for renewable energy projects

  • Oversee permitting and due diligence activities for project opportunities

  • Manage site control, options, and other aspects of real estate management for renewables project portfolio

  • Coordinate and review ALTA surveys with surveyors, title companies, and legal counsel, as well as negotiate title insurance

  • Develop relationships with landowners and support Community Affairs team on community outreach and engagement activities

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of utility-scale renewables (solar PV, energy storage/battery storage, and wind) early-stage development processes

  • Ability to build long term relationships with landowners, community stakeholders, and local municipal stakeholders

  • Proven expertise in land title issues, mineral rights, and permitting processes related to real estate acquisition/site control

  • Knowledge of governmental mandates, environmental regulations or customer/market signals that impact or facilitate new development of renewable projects in NY state

  • Ability to work independently leading all real estate negotiations or as part of a cross functional internal team

  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills to align internal functions, communication and concurrence during project development, licensing, compliance, and implementation

  • Ability to disseminate information, evaluate facts, determine alternative solutions to problems, and reach sound management and business decisions

  • Proficiency in site control mechanisms including land leases, options, purchase agreements, among others

  • Solid understanding of New York state real estate markets and permitting processes for renewable energy projects

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

  • Minimum 3 years of utility scale renewable energy experience

  • Experience working with team members to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly targets

  • Valid driver’s license required

Physical Requirements

Ability to travel as required (at least 20%) within NY State

Ability to attend meetings/events outside of normal business hours

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position in Albany, Buffalo, and Marcy is: $115,020-$162,890 and $134,540-$190,550 in White Plains. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
