New York Power Authority Lead Infrastructure Core Services Specialist in White Plains, New York

Summary

The Infrastructure Group maintains the reliability of the Headquarters’ Data Center, the Disaster Recovery site, the enterprise Data Storage and Backup facilities, the enterprise Wide Area Network, both the Headquarters Local Area Network and, in conjunction with site personnel, each site’s Local Area Network, the enterprise Telecommunications System and it various components, the E-Mail and Messaging System of the company, the enterprise Videoconference System used throughout each site and headquarters, and the various wireless communications such as Satellite Phones and Microwave systems.

Within these areas, the System Programmer, reporting to the Data Center Manager, functions with the primary role of maintaining the Data Center, the Disaster Recovery Hot-Site, the enterprise Data Storage and Back-up Facilities. The secondary role of a System Programmer is to understand and support the Network Analyst in their role of maintaining the Local Area Networks, with specific attention to the network equipment and configuration supporting the Data Center, and the maintaining of the E-mail and Messaging Systems.

The underlying Information Technology infrastructure consisting of the White Plains Data Center, the Disaster Recovery Hot-Site, and the network and telecommunications equipment found throughout the enterprise as well as the various site business computing facilities are conservatively estimated to be approximately over $10 million is assets.

Responsibilites

  • Identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of ICS operations including all NYPA server types (Windows and Linux), SAN storage, server virtualization technologies including VMWare, backups systems including Commvault.

  • Assess and recommend operational efficiency improvements including but not limited to IaaS, Lights Out Data Center solutions, Automation, Cloud and Hybrid cloud solutions

  • Responsible for supervising operation of all infrastructure and ensuring the 24/7 real-time performance of the infrastructure both internally and externally

  • Responsible for data center deployments, migrations, consolidation projects & power distribution

  • Recommend best practices that can be incorporated into the operational running of all ICS systems

  • Maintain an IT operations model that meets the business’ strategy, goals, and regulatory requirements

  • Assist and support NYPA sites with their infrastructure design, backup and disaster recovery

  • Provide guidance over all areas of Infrastructure architecture and technical design, with data center operations for infrastructure business continuance and disaster recovery

  • Maintain disaster recovery procedures and policies

  • Supervise and coordinate performance of outages, hardware maintenance, software maintenance, etc.

  • Investigate and lead staff or teams in the investigation of the most technically complex software and hardware problems related to the production environment and coordinate problem resolution with vendors and in-house personnel

  • Coordinate workload balancing.

  • Assist ICS Manager by leading and mentoring ICS staff members, providing professional leadership that will promote staff growth and development

  • Continually drive ICS optimization and efficiency and reduction of operational costs, while maintaining elite service levels and customer satisfaction

  • Work closely with NYPA’s IT Service Management team to implement and follow ITIL / ITSM service delivery models

  • Implement IT policies, procedures and best practices and serve as a lead point for the ICS team.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Information Management or a related field preferred with strong working knowledge and experience supervising/managing, configuring and implementing ICS technologies.

Troubleshooting:

  • SAN technologies.

  • Virtualization technologies

  • Microsoft servers & clustering technologies

  • The various fiber, cable and power types used in the data center

  • Brocade FC Core switches

  • Enterprice backup systems

  • 15 or more years leading or supervising a technical datacenter infrastructure and or operations team

  • 20 or more years experience in the Information Technology field

  • Electric Utility industry experience preferredMinimum 10 years experience in managing implementing, configuring and To be updated.

Physical Requirements

May be required to take frequent trips to a “hot-site” as part of NYPA’s Disaster Recovery/Business Continuance Hot-Site procedures, and to address others issues at the sites.

May be subject to extreme workloads and overtime
