Job Description

Primary projects that the prospective summer intern will work on:

1-Machine Learning techniques applications in power systems

2-Adaptive oscillation damping controller

NYPA R&TD group has recently started a project to investigate feasibility of application of machine learning techniques in power systems security assessments. The project is at its early stage but it is anticipated to be a big one with different team members from NYPA and external organizations. Having a summer intern assigned to this project will be tremendously helpful as we don't have enough internal resources for this new project.

Alternatively the prospective intern could help R&TD group members with "wide-area controller design". This is one of the area that we have been working on for few years. Currently we have three active projects pertaining to this topic in our group. following are the title of mentioned projects:

1-Adaptive oscillation damping controller (NYPA, and EPRI)

2-Advanced stability controls to combat transmission bottlenecks in high performing grid: Economic and Feasibility studies (NYPA, and IREQ)

3-Wide-area control of New York State power grid using Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) and wind farms (NYPA, and NCSU)

Skills, knowledge, and abilities the intern will walk away with at the end of the internship:
