This position is responsible for community outreach, engagement, planning and implementation of projects that focus on low- and moderate- income customers for electric and natural gas energy to promote environmental justice. This includes critical, high-level outreach and engagement to increase participation within the Low/Middle Income (LMI) customer segments and defined Communities, develop economic development programs, and implement effective community relations campaigns that support and enhance these engagements, promotion and implementation of energy efficiency programs to meet established goals.

Essential Functions

  • Build and maintain relationships with advocacy groups and service organizations focused on LMI customers within the Company’s service territory, interactions with regulators, and other external stakeholders concerned with outcomes among these customers, and close coordination with functional departments within Eversource Energy charged with delivering products and services to this customer segment.
  • Develop an understanding of LMI customer needs and priorities to design and implement solutions to meet or exceed customer and stakeholder expectations
  • Gain approval from regulators or other external stakeholders on proposed plans and anticipated outcomes
  • Identify opportunities to expand Eversource Energy’s relationships with local communities and organizations that will lead to increased economic opportunity.
  • Actively engages and builds relationships with external stakeholders representing the interest of LMI customers, and continually expand Eversource Energy’s opportunities to interact with, learn from, and leverage advocacy and service organizations to gain a deeper understanding of LMI customer needs
  • Reviews LMI customer journeys for improvements for increased access and participation including building sustainable partnerships that will lead to more equitable outcomes for LMI customers
  • Evaluate and improve the Company's portfolio of outreach and education efforts targeted to LMI customer engagement
  • Identify and monitor the core metrics, key performance indicators and other performance measures to evaluate impact and effectiveness of the department’s programmatic efforts
  • Identify opportunities to create and share content/messaging that describes the company’s operations, investment, commitments, and key achievements to our LMI customers; collaborate with stakeholders to identify stories.
  • Provide direction to business partners, such as contracted vendors, and/or technical project expertise to customers and coordinates available resources specific to the procurement and installation of energy efficient measures, strategies, and systems.
  • Manage the integration of activities, communication, and relationships between the customer, program administrators, advisory consultants, and vendor/contractors.
  • Develop documents, metrics, and plans as necessary to meet compliance with regulatory filings and oversight of ratepayer funded Energy Efficiency programs.
  • Ensure that all projects and programs are accurate and in compliance with regulatory guidelines - reviews project documentation and program applications to confirm all required and supporting materials is provided to fulfill program participation parameters.
  • Participate in the budgeting, invoicing, evaluation, and tracking of expenses and energy savings; assists with the development of RFP's for contracted services.
  • Facilitate achievement of energy efficiency goals by promoting energy efficiency solutions in environmental justice communities and to Eversource’s LMI customer base
  • Partner with Energy Efficiency colleagues across sectors/channels/states, in order to create synergies across areas and develop consistent Eversource wide energy efficiency implementation paths and strategies for customer participation and energy efficiency program implementation.

Qualifications

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Experience working with community based and advocacy-based organizations
  • Experience in managing public mission-based programs
  • Interest or experience in creating or developing program design
  • Ability to read reports and or evaluations to inform program design
  • Experience in building partnerships to reach program goals
  • Experience in outreaching to lower to moderate income communities and or environmental justice community
  • Ability to work cross functionality to support organizational goals
  • Interest or experience in expanding access to energy efficiency programs in environmental justice communities
  • Ability to utilize diversity, equity, and inclusion to reach customers with low program participation rates
  • Background or strong interest in programmatic work to support energy democracy
  • Commitment to intersectional social justice, namely environmental, racial and economic equity
  • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated by an ability to work effectively in varied professional, socio-economic, and cultural contexts
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships across all levels of the organization and externally with customers and stakeholders.
  • Experience developing stakeholder engagement strategies
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role
  • Excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills and the ability to write reports and develop presentations for senior management and external audiences as required.

Education:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, Public Policy/Administration related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

Experience :

  • Three (3) plus years of relevant experience in community outreach, public engagement, managing program design or implementation, working in environmental justice communities to increase program participation rates, project management in public facing organizations, partnership development, or energy efficiency.
  • Experience and/or aptitude in customer service also desired.

  • Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs is part of every employee’s role. If employed, you will be given an Emergency Restoration assignment.  This means you may be called to assist during an emergency outside of your normal responsibilities, work hours and location.

  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
