Brief Posting Description
Responsible for the installation, modification and commissioning of all components associated with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) equipment and associated substation automation equipment. Also responsible for providing technical support to Engineering, Operations and Maintenance personnel for SCADA equipment, substation automation equipment and telemetry.
NOTE : There is one position available and this position will be filled at either the Substation Integration Specialist I (NB20) or Senior Substation Integration Specialist (NB21). This decision will be based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate and Tri-State business needs at the time of hire.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Installation, modification and commissioning of all components associated with SCADA equipment, substation automation equipment (including program development), telemetry, protective relaying and revenue and boundary metering in substations and switchyards both energized and de-energized and provide technical support to Engineering, Operations and Maintenance personnel for SCADA equipment, substation automation equipment and telemetry.
Coordinate, assign and monitor the work of others, including training others in all types of construction commissioning and maintenance of SCADA equipment, substation automation equipment, telemetry, protective relaying and revenue and boundary metering in substations and switchyards.
Complete work order assignments, interpret prints, and prepare daily time sheets, material tickets, and field test reports, and all associated compliance documentation as required
Appraise condition of and provide technical support to engineering for the design and specifications of SCADA equipment, substation automation equipment, telemetry, protective relaying and revenue and boundary metering.
Coordination for SCADA updates and outages with Energy Management System (EMS) staff and with engineering for SCADA wirelists.
Adhere to and demonstrate compliance with appropriate electric utility industry regulatory requirements. Attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of development in regulations, laws, standards and best practices applicable to the functional area including, but not limited to, Standards of Conduct, Environmental, Employment Law, NERC Reliability Standards and Safety. Must be familiar with, and comply with, all aspects of Corporate Policy C-54, Compliance.

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
The equivalent of technical training received in an Associate Degree program in Electronics or Electrical Technology, Microwave, Telecommunications or electromechanical controls.
Must possess a current and valid driver's license
Must be willing and able to maintain First Aid and CPR certification and the ability to perform first aid and CPR as First Responder.
Must become or be a qualified switchman on Tri-State's System. Must maintain Qualified Switchman Status.
Must have been a Substation Integration Specialist for a minimum of 12 months for Senior level qualification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
Data communications, industrial electrical and electromechanical controls, digital systems control logic (including microprocessors, peripheral equipment, and programming), and networking principles
Operation, installation, modification and maintenance of SCADA and telemetry
Operation, installation, modification and maintenance of substation automation hardware and software, LAN/WAN hardware and software, microprocessors and computer systems.
- Five (5) years of combined education and experience in substation SCADA monitoring and control and substation automation, data networking and communications, and telecommunications systems applied to the electric substation environment and power system operations.
- Two (2) to three (3) years of combined education and experience in the substation construction or substation maintenance and two (2) to three (3) years of combined education and experience in substation SCADA monitoring controls and automation.
Willingness to work extra and/or irregular hours, shift work, weekends, holidays and call out.
Willingness to travel 80% of the time, including overnight travel. (Must possess a valid driver's license.)
Must reside within 60 minutes of base location.
Willingness to drive long distances (+200 miles) in multiple terrains, with changing traffic and weather conditions.
DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- High Voltage, 115kV and above protective relay testing and programming experience.
NOTE :The above requirements describe the experience and education qualifications for the Senior Substation Integration Specialist. Those with less experience will be hired at the Level I.

Incumbent is frequently required to lift items up to 10 lbs., use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Mental demands : While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is required to read, write, perform basic math, analyze data and reports, exercise judgment, develop plans, procedures and goals, direct others, present information to others and work under pressure.
Work Environment : While performing the duties of this position, the employee will occasionally be exposed to weather conditions, which can be extreme, prevalent at the time, dirt/dust, fumes and chemicals and a moderate level of noise. Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors, at a desk, around large power transmission equipment both energized and de-energized and telecommunications operating equipment. Outdoor conditions may include working at remote sites without restroom facilities, running water for drinking or washing, food convenience stores, emergency services, communications or cell phone service, or fuel for vehicle.
