Brief Posting Description


Responsible for assisting with developing, building, and supporting software application packaging for Windows endpoint deployment. The application packager is responsible for assisting with packaging both commercial off-the-shelf, custom-developed, and other applications to an environment consisting of approximately 1800 endpoints. Individual will assist with working closely with the End User Computing (EUC) team to ensure software packages are deployed and supported using SCCM. Position requires the development of collaboration skills in order to interact with other internal IT teams, business units, and external vendors as well as developing the ability, and acquiring knowledge and experience to provide a high degree of customer service and technical expertise. Endpoint computing includes physical desktops and laptops, mobile devices, and virtual desktops.

Job Requirements


  • Initially assists with but under direct supervision and guidance acquires the knowledge and experience to progressively become gradually more and more responsible for performing the following functions and responsibilities:

  • Creation, modification, and testing of computer code for a variety of applications.

  • Development of customized application packages.

  • Compatibility testing of applications and packages.

  • Remediation of software packages.

  • Maintenance and modification as required of existing software and packages.

  • Virtualization of applications using App-V.

  • Creation of deployment jobs and scripts.

  • Assessment of business requirements.

  • Identification and communication of technical problems, processes, and solutions.

  • Research into new applications.

  • Providing technical support as required.

  • Tracking and monitoring software for potential issues and conflicts.

  • Responsible for collaborating with IT Client Services HQ team and IT Client Services End User Computing team when needing expert support for endpoint computing issues and field applications.

  • Responsible to manage application packaging requests in the ITSM Cherwell tool that are assigned to the EUC queue including proper management of those tickets from open through resolve status completing all necessary fields.

  • Participate in team projects that enhance the quality of client support, as required.

  • Adhere to and demonstrate compliance with appropriate electric utility industry regulatory requirements. Attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of development in regulations, laws, standards and best practices applicable to the functional area including, but not limited to, Standards of Conduct, Environmental, Employment Law, NERC Reliability Standards and Safety. Must be familiar with, and comply with, all aspects of Corporate Policy C-54, Compliance.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology or related area, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

  • Basic knowledge of packaging tools and workflows (e.g. Admin Studio, Installshield, Wise Installer/Packaging Studio)

  • Basic knowledge of personal computing hardware, software, mobile devices, scripting languages, networked computer systems, associated peripheral equipment, remote access and virtualization technologies.

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Windows Command Shell Script and/or Powershell

  • Basic knowledge of MSI packaging best practices and standards.

  • Knowledge of troubleshooting packaging problems.

  • Knowledge of troubleshooting multiple operating systems.

  • Knowledge of personal computing management infrastructure (e.g. SCCM, Anti-virus, and related software).

  • Knowledge of networking, server, and storage technologies.

  • Ability to assimilate technical information and to communicate it to non-technical personnel.

  • Ability to develop and maintain IT documentation.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written to all levels in the company.

  • Effective analytical skills.


  • Zero (0) to two and one half (2 1/2) years of experience in a role performing application packaging and/or application development and deployment.


  • Technical skills and knowledge of WMI, NET, .BAT, .VBS, .WSE, .MSI., .MST, .MSP, SQL Server and similar scripting + database tools.

  • Knowledge of Windows Registry (32/64 bit architecture) manipulation.

  • Understanding of application installations (MSI, EXE, WMI) as pertains to Windows 7/8/10.

  • Willingness to be on call support 24 hours per day and 7 days per week.

  • Must be able to demonstrate that he/she can perform all of the essential functions of the position.

  • Willingness to travel as required. (Must possess a valid driver's license.)

  • Mental demands: While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to read, write, perform basic to complex math, analyze data and reports, exercise judgment, develop plans, procedures and goals, and present information to others and work under pressure.

  • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is exposed to a moderate level of noise. Majority of duties are performed indoors primarily at a desk in a business office environment.
