About Transmission and Distribution
Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
Supports the SCE, Substation Construction and Maintenance Organization’s Grounding program. This position performs fabrication, inspection, maintenance, testing, handling and storage work activities for Protective Grounding equipment/Cables and materials. Maintains a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices. In addition to the maintenance activities other primary functions include:
Handling and storing materials using utility trucks (forklift) and cranes.
Producing maintenance and test records.
Communicating with Field Personnel.
Coordinating shipment of grounding equipment.
This position reports to the Supervisor of the Standards Laboratory at the Westminster Combined Facility.
Typical Responsibilities :
Repairs and restores a variety of Personal Ground Safety Tools used in SCE system operation, maintenance and construction functions.
Disassembles, cleans, repairs or replaces parts and performs conductivity tests on the grounds.
Works from fabrication and repair procedures, specifications written and oral instructions.
Uses manual and power operated hand tools; precision measuring devices for restoring and refinishing ground components.
Performs semi-skilled operations with repair shop machine tools.
Performs CAD / exothermic welding of cable, copper rods and connectors.
Instructs and directs workers assisting in repair work.
As required, assists with disassembly, overhaul and repair of tools and equipment in repair shop or field locations.
Works safely alone and with or around others.
Performing heavy physical tasks to handle equipment.
One or more years of experience diagnosing Electrical Grounding Cables and repairing and refurbishing this equipment.
One or more years of experience working with Low resistance Electrical Testing of personal Ground Electrical/Cable assemblies.
Two or more years of experience performing work with hand and power tools.
Experience driving an industrial truck (i.e. forklift).
Experience with exothermic welding procedures (CAD Welding).
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are of a level comparable with those normally acquired through completion of shop courses in high school or trade school with aptitude for electrical/mechanical equipment maintenance and repair work.
Knowledge of nomenclature, personal ground equipment terminology, purpose, and function of SCE mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment to be repaired.
Use of hand and power tools and equipment repair procedures, blueprint reading and shop mathematics.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Candidates must be available to test during the following time frame: 5/10/18 – 5/24/18.
Ability to lift, carry and/or push up to25lbs. and work in elevated positions.
