Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. Position Overview

The Lab Technician will perform technical and high accuracy electrical calibrations, tests, investigations, repairs and modifications on all types of electrical, apparatus such as ammeters, voltmeters, wattmeter’s, temperature indicators, synchro scopes, instrument transformers, shunts, oscilloscopes, signal generators, tuned radio frequency voltmeters, electronic counter timers, frequency meters, power factor meters, watthour meters, etc.

Calibrates all laboratory working standards such as ammeters, voltmeters, wattmeter’s, bridges and electronic standards using primary standards such as standard cells, potentiometers, volt boxes, standard resistors and current shunts and thermocouple transfer standards. Prepares analytical and technical reports.

Typical Responsibilities :

  • The Lab Technician will perform technical and high accuracy electrical calibrations, tests, investigations, repairs and modifications on all types of electrical, apparatus such as ammeters, voltmeters, wattmeter’s, temperature indicators, synchro scopes, instrument transformers, shunts, oscilloscopes, signal generators, tuned radio frequency voltmeters, electronic counter timers, frequency meters, power factor meters, and watthour meters.

  • The Lab Technician calibrates all laboratory working standards such as ammeters, voltmeters, watt meters, bridges and electronic standards using primary standards such as standard cells, potentiometers, volt boxes, standard resistors and current shunts and thermocouple transfer standards.

  • On a daily basis the Lab Technician will records data and calculate true values, % error and correction factors. Standardize laboratory watthour standards and calibrate all portable watthour standards and Meter.

  • The Lab Technician will evaluate new Watthour metering products, perform instrument transformer tests and other special tests and investigations in the laboratory and in the field.

  • Adhere to SCE safety protocols and safe work practices.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience testing and troubleshooting electronics and/or electrical measurement equipment.

  • Formal Electrical Training Certification or Diploma through an Electrical Apprenticeship, Trade School, University, Community College or equivalent electrical education.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science (Engineering, Mathematics, Computers, Electronics).

  • Five or more years of electrical engineering experience.

  • One or more years of experience in the application, testing and maintenance of single phase and/or poly phase metering.

  • Knowledge of Electrical Theory of D.C. and A.C. circuits including phasor diagrams.

  • Experience performing special and standardized tests to analyze and interpret results.

  • Experience preparing analytical reports.

  • Must be able to understand and execute oral and written technical instructions.

  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment failures.
