Edison Electric Institute Political & External Affairs Internship in Washington, District Of Columbia

Overview

The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) is seeking a talented and committed intern to join the External Affairs team this summer. This role provides the opportunity to gain exposure to the various issues of interest to the energy industry. The dates of this internship are mid-May through mid-August and requires a commitment of 35 hours per week. Start and end dates are negotiable.

EEI is the trade association for all U.S. investor-owned electric companies. Our office is located in the heart of Penn Quarter, on Pennsylvania Avenue between the U.S. Capitol Building and the White House.

This is a paid internship.

  • College Students: $20 per hour

  • Graduate Students: $25 per hour

External Affairs (EA) team leads the organization’s efforts in two areas: 1) engaging and educating state and local elected officials and stakeholders on member company state policy priorities and 2) supporting our members’ advocacy objectives through EEI’s Public Affairs resources and campaign training. Additionally, the EA team is part of the larger EEI State Practice, a cross-functional effort with the State Regulatory Affairs team, in support of members’ state legislative and regulatory priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning of events like Congressional Baseball Game and Lineworker Appreciation Day.

  • Research, analyze, and summarize both broad and specific issues across, and on behalf of, EEI member companies.

  • Draft email newsletters, blog posts, etc. for the public affairs team.

  • Support the team with administrative duties.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Enrolled in, or having recently completed, an undergraduate or graduate program in Political Science, Communications, Public Policy, Public Relations, Business Administration, or related area.

  • Accuracy, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple work streams, ability to complete tasks on time, self-motivation.

  • Web research skills and resourcefulness.

  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills.

  • Ability and desire to learn.

Preferences

  • Prior experience working in an office environment.

This is a hybrid position which requires the incumbent to reside in the District of Columbia metropolitan area for the duration of the internship and come into the office a minimum of three days each week.
