POSITION PURPOSE:

Provides legislative expertise to the Federal Government Relations team in TVA’s Washington, D.C. office. Monitors pending federal legislation of interest to TVA. Observes congressional hearings and committee meetings. Conducts research on legislative and regulatory issues. Focuses on personal development and takes ownership in staying current on the latest Federal issues and the D.C. political landscape.

Supervisory Responsibility — None

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Prepares various internal and external reports on behalf of Federal Government Relations and TVA including international travel by TVA employees and international visitors to TVA.

  2. Helps monitor federal legislation of interest to TVA and alert Government Relations’ leaders and staff of proposed legislation that could impact the Valley states and/or TVA and its stakeholders. Assists the Government Relations’ leaders and employees in the development of strategies to address legislation of concern to TVA.

  3. Observes, and occasionally attends, congressional committee hearings on behalf of Washington Representative, Government Relation employees.

  4. Work with other federal agencies to improve TVA’s reputation and ensure TVA complies with policy and reporting requirements.

  5. Arrange and host TVA briefings with the TVA congressional delegation and their staffs.

  6. Helps prepare Government Relations’ leaders and staff for their facilitation of strategic interactions between TVA executives and federal officials and agencies.

  7. Demonstrates the ability to work with federal officials to address constituent concerns and inquiries related to TVA and its initiatives. Also responsible for legislative committee meeting summaries while also monitoring for and alerting the Government Relations’ team of any TVA-related issues or concerns.

  8. Focuses on personal development and takes ownership in staying current on the latest Federal issues and the D.C. political landscape.

  9. Develops working knowledge of TVA and Federal Government Relations to prepare responses to congressional referrals, when necessary.

  10. Interacts with TVA Board members and executives when visiting the TVA D.C. office.

  11. Researches, monitors, and reports on regulatory issues of interest to TVA.

  12. Handles other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, business or a related field of study

  • Experience – Four years of professional experience or two years of related professional experience and a background or education in federal government relations, policies and programs.

  • Certification/License, etc — N/A

  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — Requires knowledge of candidate may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position / access requirements and essential job functions.

  • Detailed knowledge of the Federal legislative process.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent writing and research skills.

  • Experience in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Experience working with executive level management.
