Gridtern Program Overview

Our Gridtern Program is a structured paid summer internship opportunity established to provide you with hands-on learning experience as well as exposure to various functions within our company as your introduction to the energy industry. Your summer will be filled with hands on projects and assignments, countless networking opportunities, field learning experiences and professional development.

Gridterns will start their summer on either May 23rd or June 6th 2022. Here at National Grid we believe what you achieve while working, is more important than where you do your work. Understanding that different moments call for different environments, we are taking the approach that the future of work is hybrid. Put simply, most of our teams follow a mixture of both home and office working. Specific department set ups do vary and will be identified later in the selection process.

IT at National Grid

Our student programs help you develop technical and leadership skills as well as build core competencies that will shape the future of how National Grid leverages technology.

Participating Departments Overview

Internship responsibilities will vary on department placement. With over 200 intern positions being offered for the summer, we don’t advertise them all individually; below are a handful of examples of 2022 participating departments to showcase the array of opportunities!

Global Security

Our Global Security department is responsible for developing and supporting multiple Identity & Access Management (IAM) products including CyberArk, SailPoint and Azure Single Sign On. The team work includes business analysis, requirements elicitation through to developing new code using Java. The tools we support will be used by everyone at National Grid and we need to interface with all areas of the business.

Evaluation, Measurement & Verification

The Evaluation, Measurement & Verification (EM&V) team supports National Grid's award-winning energy efficiency programs and clean energy technologies by quantifying and tracking the energy savings, greenhouse gas savings, and other impacts of the programs. The team also performs evaluation studies to aid in program design and performance improvements.

Pressure Regulation Engineering

The Pressure Regulation Engineering team is responsible for all National Grid’s regulating equipment. Responsibilities of the team include developing and overseeing all capital work. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, piping, components, regulators, heaters, scrubbers, and valves.

Security, Business Partnering & Integration (BP&I)

The Security Business Partnering & Integration (BP&I) team supports all IT & Business-related projects by identifying security requirements based on our specific business requirements. The team ensures that the correct security services are appropriately integrated to enable our IT & Business teams to go-live securely.

Qualifications

Qualifications include (but not limited to):

  • Pursuing a degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cyber Security, or a related field

  • Applicant must have accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age

  • Applicants for the Gridtern Program must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States

  • Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2022 Semester

  • Some intern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license. This qualification will be included in department specific Gridtern position(s) during the next step of the selection process

At that time, you will receive more information on the department, role, specific location, working structure, and detailed responsibilities of the position(s).
