Job Purpose

The Planning, Process & Systems Specialist will join the Strategy & Planning team within National Grid’s Global Procurement organization, supporting and coordinating the management of business planning, performance improvement and measurement, and executive level performance reporting for both our US & UK regions. Our team works collectively to deliver a high-quality work product, always seeking to find improvements and efficiencies both within our team initiatives and for our stakeholders. It is a highly analytical process-oriented team, diverse in background, education, and geography.

The Planning Process & Systems Improvement Specialist will collaborate with multiple regional and global teams in Global Procurement and occasionally with cross-functional teams within National Grid.

The right candidate will have strong process, analytical, and project management skills, and have the ability to prioritize and balance multiple assignments simultaneously. A high degree of proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, data visualization, and database tools are required. The ability to build good relationships with all levels of stakeholders is key. Procurement/Supply Chain background and a strong financial acumen is desirable.

Key Accountabilities

Process Improvement/Change Management:

Identify and propose process and/or system improvement opportunities

Design process roadmaps to drive achievement of future strategic performance aspirations of the Global Procurement organization

Lead initiatives to drive efficiencies and improvements, establish measurable success criteria, and build success measurement and reporting capabilities for executive leadership

Prepare detailed plans to track workplan performance and assure timely completion and achievement of project deliverables

Analyze, assess, and align existing processes/tools with change requirements both internal and external to Global Procurement

Stakeholder Engagement:

Develop and deliver communication and change management updates for broad audience

Identify, manage, and communicate risks and issues that impact project progress

System Process Development:

Develop and deploy user training and provide ongoing support

Enable and drive integrity of data and efficiency in systems and reporting

Support assurance of resiliency in our systems and processes

Data Analysis:

Analyze complex data sets and provide insightful and meaningful summaries to drive strategic decisions

Perform deep dive analysis of data for root cause analysis and problem resolution

Evaluate and summarize data into quantifiable measurements/KPIs with corresponding trending and reporting


  • BS in Business Analytics, Information Mgt., Business Engineering (or comparable)

  • Skilled in the use of Excel, data analytics tools

  • Data Visualization tools

  • Relational database management

  • 3+ years of practical experience

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Highly analytical with the ability to draw conclusions using disparate sources of data

  • Strong team and partnering skills

  • Ability to bring creative and innovative ideas and deliver solutions

  • Ability to create clear, concise communications

  • Process improvement experience

  • Experience translating long-term strategies into operating plans

  • Experience in Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent data visualization tools

  • Lean Six Sigma certification (desirable)

  • Microsoft suite

  • Relational data base/statistical knowledge (e.g., SQL, Python, R Studio/R Programming)

  • Power BI (Tableau desirable)

  • Workflow automations tools (e.g., Alteryx preferred)

  • API Knowledge

  • SAP/Ariba Knowledge (desirable)
