National Grid Project Portfolio Director in Waltham, Massachusetts

*About the position:*

To lead and drive effective demand management and planning of all projects and programs within the Infrastructure portfolio. Develops and maintains relationships with key stakeholders within IS to identify and scope new projectdemand for non Service Delivery funded projects. Owns and leads the estimation forum to agree scope, develop estimates to complete and durations for all IPD demand. Responsible for the overall IPD schedule of work and resource requirements.

Provides key insights and analysis of the Portfolio Management capability with recommendations on improvement opportunities to increase performance and quality. Provides key insights into financial management of the portfolio. Develops and manages Project Business Benefits Tracking – ensures all projects have clear business benefits identified and trackable metrics. Will also act as the Program Director for key initiatives in a hands on manner as required.

Portfolio Planning & Demand Management

  • Interface with non Infrastructure teams to scope and agree new demand

  • Creates and maintains new demand pipeline

  • Coordinates with PDM’s to provide forecast of new demand and manages transition of new approved demand into IPD Delivery Schedule

  • Responsible for creation and ongoing management of overall IPD Delivery Schedule including resource requirements and financial management

Estimation Service

  • Responsible for management and execution of Estimation workshops for all projects prior to Sanction and as part of the Annual Budget Project Prioritization

Project Benefits Tracking

  • Project Business Benefits Dashboard and Metric Tracking

Financial and Performance Analytics

  • Provides insights and recommendations on key performance improvement opportunities and financial performance

  • Identifies and drives continuous improvement activities across the IPD organization increasing performance and quality

_Knowledge & Experience Required:_

  • BS and educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Confirmation of successfully leading and managing complex portfolios, large scale programs and teams

  • Significant level of experience in a Portfolio Management at a senior level.

  • Expert knowledge and in-depth experience of Portfolio, Program, Project and Financial Management

  • Significant experience of leading and managing teams across multiple regions

  • Experience of leading in a regulated environment

  • Expert knowledge of project management and planning processes and techniques

  • Experience of PPM methodologies and support tools

  • Excellent level of financial and commercial acumen

  • Strong communication skillsand the ability to influence and manage senior stakeholders at VP level

  • Able to evidence the implementation of initiatives in a complex organizational environment

  • Able to switch (as needed) between higher level strategy work, and drop down into low level process work

  • Comfortable with ambiguity, and able to lead effectively in such situations - effectively shaping and framing problems to facilitate effective resolution
