National Grid Program Manager, SMART Solar in Waltham, Massachusetts

_About the Position:_

Manage the delivery and performance of National Grid’s implementation of the statewide Solar Massachusetts renewable Target (SMART) program with a focus on customer and internal needs, including business support, coordination of services, management of the third-party program administrator and the tracking of budget spending, vendor performance against contractual SLA’s, timeliness and accuracy of incentive payments, and other key performance indicators. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve customer satisfaction, productivity, and process efficiency through the use of best practices and market-driven strategies. Responsible for managing the overall performance of the SMART program within National Grid’s Massachusetts service territory in order to achieve committed targets within program budgets.


_Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):_

  • Business Support – Provide support for internal functions supporting program delivery and execution, including but not limited to: coordination with multiple interdependent internal functions on process development and improvements, acting as a program subject matter expert to internal teams requiring program support, and leading development and resolution of program policies and issues as needs arise

  • Goal Tracking & Development – Monitor progress toward regulatory goals and budget spending, as well as internal goals (key performance indicators) of implementation and productivity. If/when necessary, develop and execute tactics to boost performance to goals / mandates.

  • Typical activities include leading and attending meetings with external and internal stakeholders; presenting at various internal and external meetings on the delivery of the program; in-person at multiple Massachusetts locations, initiating and responding to emails and phone calls.

  • Services Coordination – Act as primary point-of-contact and work with all parties currently leading and managing National Grid’s implementation and delivery of the SMART program. Act as primary point of contact for stakeholders for progress to delivery of program goals and mandates.

  • Program Improvement and Development – Proactively seek ways to improve program delivery to participants by soliciting vendor, customer and stakeholder feedback, researching/implementing best practices, exploring ways to streamline processes, and developing communication materials. Collaborate with internal partners to develop robust strategies and execution plans that offer best-in-class approaches to delivering the SMART program for market participants.

  • Proactively develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Represent National Grid values when meeting with key internal and external stakeholders such as residential and C&I program participants, solar developers, other participating utilities, or regulatory agencies.

  • Deliver high quality work with adherence to internal and external deadlines.

  • Develop and maintain a solid understanding of the business by staying abreast of business trends, and learning and sharing best practices.

  • Research primary data sources and analyze trends to support defining the approach and performance targets for the market.

  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with the third party Solar Program administrator, including effective negotiation, interpretation, and application of established contractual agreements and/or service level agreements.

  • Working collaboratively with business units, such as Customer Energy Integration, Business Strategy, Billing Operations, Marketing, and Procurement to help achieve goals.

  • Ensuring that program contract key performance indicators are met

_Knowledge & Experience Required:_

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area and a minimum of 3 years of related experience (Solar related program management preferred).

  • Proficiency in relevant software e.g. Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Knowledge of relevant industry practices, trends, and legislation.
