National Grid Portfolio Lead Test Manager - Connectivity in Waltham, Massachusetts
_About the Position:_
The Portfolio Lead Test Manager (Connectivity) will report into the Global Head of Test & Quality, which supports Infrastructure Program Delivery (IPD) projects and programs and reports to the Head of Infrastructure Delivery Services. IPD consists of 3 US based portfolios:US Data Center, Platform & Cloud, Global End-user & Collaboration.
_Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):_
The Portfolio Lead Test Manager will be Test Manager for several projects in the portfolio, but is also responsible for quality and testing forallprojects within the Connectivity portfolio and is the single point of contact for the Program Delivery Manager of the portfolio for all aspects of testing.
*Portfolio Test & Quality responsibilities:*
Operate as the Connectivity portfolio’s primary point of contact for testing and quality, reporting and escalating to the Global Head of Test & Quality as required. Ensure that the processes and standards defined by the Infrastructure Test & Quality team are adhered to in the portfolio.
Ensure that the Connectivity portfolio projects are sufficiently resourced by Test Managers (and UAT Test analysts if required) and those resources are independent of the delivery supplier(s).
Full responsibility for the strategizing, planning, management and co-ordination of all testing activities within the portfolio and evaluating risk potential during all stages of development, working to National Grid’s Solution Delivery Framework (SDF) governance model always.
Manage portfolio test resources on a day-to-day basis, including contractor renewals and recommendations, interviewing potential candidates, onboarding and training.
Build strong relationships with the PDM, Project Managers within the portfolio, and key suppliers.
*Test Manager responsibilities: *
Define and own project Test Strategies for a number of projects in the portfolio to ensure the most effective and efficient functional and non-functional testing is carried out, including the use of specialized testing tools and techniques by collaborating with end users and project teams, including our suppliers to define the test strategy. Help to set priorities that balance ‘desirable’ against ‘practical’ testing strategies.
Manage and plan individual test phases and produce or assure phase test plans and exit reports depending on where the responsibility for the test phase lies (National Grid/ Supplier).
Work closely with application support partners (IBM, Wipro) and business users as required to define, plan and collectively report on UAT progress.
Work closely with suppliers to ensure that test process is adhered to. Ensure that quality is known throughout via regular sessions with suppliers. Review and assure output from suppliers. Ensure suppliers are aware of, and follow, the National Grid best practice test processes.
Gather standard Test & Quality metrics on quality and testing across the portfolio’s projects and present to key stakeholders.
Actively seek feedback on the service provided regularly with portfolio PMs
Ensure that traceability exists between requirements, tests, results and defects and that a suitable process is in place to assess the effect on testing of changes in requirements.
Define, agree and execute Test witnessing of supplier testing, if required.
Liaise with Program / Project managers to manage expectations for the testing stages of projects. Agree quality criteria and corrective action
Define defect management and test reporting procedures appropriate to the project, including weekly test progress reporting to include risks and issues. Manage the defect triage process.
Highlight issues, dependencies and assumptions and drive forward from identification through to resolution.
Obtain formal sign-off approvals for test phase completion and store these in the project’s SharePoint site.
Actively work with the Test & Quality community in IPD. Seek and engage in promotional and process improvement activities for the team, furthering the understanding of testing and the Test & Quality team in the US, for example, town halls, PM Community of Practice.
Ensure Microsoft Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS) as National Grid’s strategic tool, is considered as the primary option for projects to manage requirements, tests and defects.
Work closely with Solution architects, Service Transition and Service owners to ensure that non-functional requirements are suitably scoped and testable. Support Operational Acceptance Testing (OAT) test phases, incorporating tests such as backup and recovery, security, high availability, resilience, site failover, disaster recovery and performance.
Review deployment plans.
Facilitate test planning workshops with all relevant stakeholders
_Knowledge & Experience Required:_
At least 5 years’ experience as a Test Manager in multiple roles within outsourced supplier environments, including functional and non-functional testing in Waterfall environments.
Educated to degree level (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Experience testing infrastructure projects, with a need to show understanding of networks, infrastructure IP addressing, IP routing protocols, Internet technologies and standards, Internet security issues, circuit technologies, communications engineering standards, web and network access technologies, QOS, firewalls, switches, wireless access points and routers. Knowledge of cloud computing, virtualization.
Experience of large corporate international environments.
Experience of collaboratively working with large numbers of business users in multiple locations.
*Qualifications & experience desired:*
ISEB/ ISQTB, Certified Agile Tester (CAT)
Previous experience working with National Grid, DXC/ CSC and Verizon
Knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio Team Services, or equivalent ALM toolset.
