National Grid is hiring a Lead Analyst for our US Strategy department in Waltham, MA.
The Lead Analyst, US Strategy will work closely with the Strategy leadership to facilitate, lead and coordinate the development of strategy positions for the US regulated and unregulated businesses, and to provide strategy support to US business units requiring assistance. The US Strategy team is part of the Group Strategy team at National Grid and as such the role also entails work on global strategic projects. The successful candidate will become a trusted partner to the business and their market/business insights and thought leadership in strategy will be welcome and sought after.
The US Strategy team has a shared resource pool, so reporting relationships may be altered based on project and professional development needs.
Participate in the development and review of US business strategy and annual strategic agenda to provide the US business units with appropriate context for medium and long term business decision-making.
Work with key US business stakeholders to develop and gain alignment on positions in support of National Grid’s US regulated and unregulated growth strategy. As there is significant level of strategic expertise in specific business areas, success in this position will require a high degree of emotional intelligence, facilitation and influencing skills.
In collaboration with the Global Strategy team, develop and standardize best practice strategy research, analysis and presentation tools and techniques to produce high quality, CEO-ready outputs.
Provide strategic and analytic assistance in projects to support the success of US business units, including development of positions in key policy discussions.
Participate in the development of annual strategic business plans for US business units, providing strategic context and content.
Support the development of industry context reports and work streams related to M&A by providing relevant market/company insights and preliminary financial analysis for potential growth options.
Undergraduate degree required, graduate degree/MBA preferred.
Significant (5+ years) of experience in supporting strategy development and formulation in large/complex environments, either in a consulting organization or a corporate environment.
Demonstrated experience in delivery of CEO-ready outputs and proven ability to work with senior leaders in an organization.
Experience and understanding of the energy (electricity and natural gas) sector and regulatory issues affecting the industry highly desirable.
Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills required, understanding of corporate finance, strategic and business planning desired.
Effective communication and organizational skills are necessary for success in this role.
Ability to appropriately tailor communication styles (both verbal and written) to convey complex/ambiguous concepts to a wide range of audiences.
Strong team player – the US Strategy team is a small, specialized team that shares resources across projects
Collaborative consultative style with an inherent sense of balance between strategic thinking and pragmatic business decision making
Comfortable working in a matrix organization and effectively engaging with multiple stakeholders at various levels in the organization.
