About the Graduate Development Program

National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP ) is an in-depth training and development program for high achieving recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 8-week Orientation which gives you exposure to all part of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. National Grid is aiming for an in-person GDP experience for Summer 2021. However, we will continue to monitor the impacts of COVID-19 and will shift to a virtual program if necessary, in order to honor our commitment to our young talent pipeline.

Following Orientation, Graduates begin working in their hired position. Additionally, all Graduates will develop leadership skills through frequent development sessions and a Capstone Project at the completion of your first year with National Grid. You will meet amazing individuals, both within our organization and local communities and will be assigned a mentor who will provide guidance and insight to help you start and progress in your career.

About the Position

Major changes are sweeping across the energy industry, including a shift towards renewables and electric transportation and a transition towards performance-based rates for utilities. Customers’ expectations are rising, and they are looking to interact with us as conveniently and easily as they do with digital retailers like Amazon. As a utility operating in the forward-looking states of MA, RI and NY, National Grid is leading the way on climate change mitigation with our clean energy plan. We must deliver on these plans without significantly raising costs for our customers while continuing to deliver shareholder value.

The Wholesale Networks business (comprising of Transmission, Generation and Energy Procurement) is central to driving this transition to clean energy. The Planning and Performance Management team plays an important role by working closely with the Wholesale Networks senior leadership team to develop strategic plans, manage business performance, risks, and compliance. We set the pace and keep executives and their teams on track to deliver excellence on an aggressive timeline. We work cross-functionally to ensure the achievement of department objectives. We collaborate with other Wholesale Networks teams to manage our strategic portfolio and change the way the business unit works to be more transparent, innovative and performance focused.

National Grid is looking for an Associate Analyst, Planning and Performance Management with a balance of analytical discipline, creative thinking, and curiosity, to join our team. As an Associate Analyst, you will develop a deep understanding of the energy industry and create winning and sustainable strategies to transform the Transmission and Generation businesses. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills including the demonstrated ability to develop hypotheses; structure research and conduct analysis; and communicate well-supported conclusions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Contribute to the management and reporting of business performance data and information.

  • Contribute to the alignment of business-unit reporting with company-wide performance reporting.

  • Collecting and analyzing data from a variety of primary and secondary sources, and effectively communicating findings and insights to the leadership team in verbal and written form.

  • Support the production of tailored deep-dive strategic insights as required to support decision making within the business area.

  • Support production of metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Support managing and reporting on key risks and controls.

  • Support adherence to compliance requirements and reporting to business unit leadership.

  • Supporting development of strategic plans and transformation initiatives.

  • Assist in tracking trends/strategic signposts in the transmission and generation areas including policy, market, customer, competitors, and technology changes.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Ability to build strong relationships at all levels within the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution

  • Graduated between May 2020 and June 2021

  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 1, 2021 or June 21, 2021

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Proven leadership experience

  • Strong analytical skills and fluency with Excel

  • Background in management consulting or strategy development a plus

  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Impeccable personal standards of commitment and integrity

  • Applicants for the Graduate Development Program must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States
