Job Purpose

The Distribution Line Contracting Manager will support the department director and provide leadership and clear direction for the distribution line contracting team that ensures the delivery and documentation of work within the agreed timelines, cost schedules, quality and safety standards; and within a risk profile that fully supports operating to the highest Safety, Health and Environmental standards to ensure company goals are met and the construction program delivery is consistent with company objectives, strategies and policies. To fully integrate, optimize and lead the full life cycle of distribution line contracting construction program.

Key Accountabilities

Provide leadership and direction for the assigned Distribution line construction team.

Ensure safe and reliable construction of the Distribution systems that are consistent with company goals, objectives and policies, in full compliance with existing and relevant emerging government codes and regulations.

Work closely with management and provide team leadership to ensure that organizational goals are communicated to the team and that group direction is consistent with corporate strategy, direction and growth objectives.

Ensure successful performance of assigned distribution line team; challenge, motivate and develop subordinates; reinforce a “continuous improvement” work environment within a performance based culture.

Work closely with leadership and procurement to develop outsourcing strategies that achieve competitive contract pricing while maintaining the highest quality work standards and construction practices.

Work closely with management to develop operating budgets and resource allocations to ensure timely and cost effective achievement of all assigned work.

Work with process owners, management and peer Managers to identify and implement business process improvement and best practices in a consistent manner; and remain abreast of changing technologies and industry best practices.

Implement new systems, policies and project initiatives.

Work with management to develop and sustain a contractor relations strategy, to improve relationships, enhance operational flexibility, and improve efficiencies, support business continuity, risk management and logistics initiatives.

Ensure distribution line construction interface with Project Management, Program Management and Community Relations as needed to support ongoing distribution line construction work.

Work closely with Division Operation teams to provide assistance with storm support as needed.

Ensure distribution line construction team fully supports operating to the highest SHE standards to ensure company goals are met and the construction program delivery is consistent with company objectives, strategies and policies.

Consistently demonstrate support for the National Grid values.

Demonstrate high level of functional and corporate commitment; consistent management team contributor; and change agent for corporate programs.

Ensure all team members receive appropriate communications, clear objectives, training, coaching and development, motivation, regular performance feedback and recognition of achievements.

Requirements:

This position requires driving. A valid Driver's License and a driving record which meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy are required.

A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and/or significant relevant construction experience in all aspects of utility distribution line construction operations. Experience with successful delivery of complex projects and possess team leadership skills.

Strong influencing and negotiating skills.

Excellent communication skills.

Strong PC and business applications knowledge to facilitate full leveraging of technology solutions in the construction work environment.
