This role is an integral part of a major initiative to enable the US Gas Business by improving how our employees serve our customers today and by creating the platform for tomorrow’s growth. You will drive this enablement program to deliver changes across people, process, systems and technology to create:

  • Enhanced Reliability – refresh and replace most of our core work and asset management systems to improve the reliability and enable enhanced public safety and a more robust service to our customers

  • Enhanced Compliance – deliver significant system rationalization and simplification by enabling processes that are more intuitive to perform work in the right way and capture the required data; have visibility of all work; reduce complexity from multiple systems and processes

  • Enhanced Customer Service – enhanced performance through better scheduling and dispatch processes, enabling an enhanced interface for our customers to interact directly with us to book appointments and work

  • Enable Continuous Improvement – relieve our loss of agility from multiple, inflexible, legacy systems that restrict opportunities to efficiently meet customer, regulatory and company needs

  • Enhanced Employee Engagement – deliver a step change in service and engagement for our employees to help them serve our customers through solutions that are easy to use, have better information and can be taken on the job site

  • Enable Future Growth – deliver systems to enable agility and growth through enhanced visibility and connectivity that will make it easier for employees, contractors and stakeholders to engage with National Grid to support the growing work plan

_About the Position:_

The Cloud Services Manager is responsible for the effective delivery and continuous improvement of cloud platform services in support of the US Gas Business Enablement program and to establish strategic services enabling step changes within National Grid’s solution delivery practice. Position has immediate responsibility for a set of Microsoft Azure based environments and services and may be extended to other providers as an outcome of continuous improvement.

_Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): _

  • Plan, build and deliver the cloud vision by providing technical expertise and guidance in cloud technologies

  • Provide proven infrastructure deployments and management by leveraging infrastructure as code and configuration management tools (e.g. ARM Templates, Cloud formations, Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins)

  • Provide operational support for Cloud environment, inclusive of network, storage, compute, OS, application services as well as availability, disaster recovery and business continuity

  • Work with and oversee the retained consultant team performing the foundational design and build; fulfill the informed buyer role; establish an enduring, scaled agile aligned, cloud services capability

  • Assume, execute and grow a Kanban based function within a large, Scaled Agile Framework program

  • Work with a team of program Solution Architects and Engineers to develop approaches for cloud services.

  • Provide outputs that can contribute to management of the live services.

  • Develops own ideas, or the ideas of others, making all the necessary observations and tests and carrying them through to a full practical demonstration, wherever viable and feasible. Where necessary, designs data collection tools and techniques for both qualitative and quantitative data.

  • Identify and respond to key Gas Business Enablement drivers as surfaced by the program framework

  • Identify and coordinate with the enterprise cloud IT initiatives and strategies to both leverage and compliment those activities

  • Develops models and plans for the implementation of the strategy, taking advantage of opportunities to improve business performance.

  • Demonstrates the Valued Business Partner capabilities and behaviors in all interactions with IS Colleagues, vendors and business stakeholders

  • Reports to the IS Enablement Program Director within IS Strategic Solution Delivery for the US Gas Business Enablement program

_Knowledge & Experience Required:_

_Qualifications Required:_

  • BS and educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Proven track record of successfully contributing to large scale programs

  • Well versed in cloud constructs from Azure and other Tier 1 providers (AWS, Rackspace)

  • Proven ability with PowerShell or 3rd party software tools to create and deploy infrastructure as code (such as Checkpoint firewalls and the various Azure based services: VMs, Storage Accounts & Managed Disks, Backups, Site Recovery, App Gateways, Load Balancers, Network Security Groups, Active Directory, VNETs/SNETs, PaaS database offerings, OMS, Data Factory, API Management Service)

  • Windows and Linux system administration experience

  • Proven design, planning and implementation experience with all infrastructure components including Governance, Security, Financial, Storage, Network and Compute technologies

  • An up to date knowledge of current technology and IT service management

  • A demonstration of keeping abreast of trends in the IT industry

  • Experience working in a multi partner outsourced ecosystem

_Experience & Technical Knowledge Desired:_

  • Methods and techniques for structured reviews, including reviews of technical diagrams, themes, capabilities, epics and stories during sprints and program increment sessions within a Scaled Agile framework desirable

  • Experience in Service Architect / Service Strategist disciplines in an IS function desirable

  • Experience with enterprise and solution architecture desirable

  • Relevant regulatory and industry standards and practices desirable

  • Utility business knowledge of the full IT lifecycle desirable

  • Experience with Dev Ops tool chains

  • Good written and verbal communications skills

  • Good stakeholder management and influencing skills at project stakeholder level

  • Ability to convey conceptual architecture or detailed architecture depending on audience

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Ability to lead and manage a mixed team of employees, contractors, 3rdparty suppliers and consultants

  • Has the ability to influence and manage senior stakeholders at Director/EVP level.

  • Has experience with agile development/delivery methodologies.

  • Has proven leadership, relationship, communication and presentation skills

  • Agile experience preferred

_Job Dimensions:_

  • Responsible for delivering specific Cloud Platform and Application Services work to time and budget under the direction of the program’s IS Enablement Program Director

  • Responsible for partnering with National Grid Gas Business Enablement Solution Architects and National Grid Enterprise Architecture to align on standards and to influence emerging standards

  • Contributes to the overall governance of the program as Product Owner for the Gas Business Enablement Cloud Services

  • With peer Gas Business Enablement managers providing enabling services to understand, influence and align enabling service activities

  • With Gas Business Enablement IT consultant partners contracted to deliver the foundational work

  • With functional team IS managers and directors as well as business Product Owners to understand and align backlogs and commitments

  • With IS Service Delivery and IS Business Partners for alignment of capabilities and timing

  • With Enterprise Architecture to ensure consistency of the architecture across all Enterprise Architecture domains

  • With IS Digital Risk and Security for alignment and conformance to security policies and standards
