Job Summary

The Communications Specialist - Information Technology (IT) is responsible for supporting internal communications for the IT organization. This position will partner with IT teams and change practitioners, consulting on communication needs and developing and implementing integrated communication plans and content. This position will support IT executive/leader positioning within the IT department and the company, in partnership with the IT Change Management and Communications leader and Corporate Communications.

Responsibilities

• Creates and implements communication plans that leverage multichannel approaches focusing on the right message (and appropriate level of technical complexity), to the right audience, at the right time.• Manages email communication for IT to include writing / review / approval of messages, both within the department and to business partners, conforming with Duke Energy brand and writing standards. Monitors and responds to department email (ITCommunications@dukeenergy.com). Collaborates with various stakeholders to manage IT department distribution lists.• Creates and manages engaging and compelling IT-related content, including leadership and other technology presentations, video and podcast messages (standalone and series).• Works with content owners to ensure IT content on the Duke Energy Portal is accurate and up-to-date and information is easily accessible / arranged for optimal user experience.• Maintains communications and engagement calendar for IT, ensuring proper sequencing of activities.• Collaborates with IT change management practitioners to support communication needs including consulting on communication plans, reviewing content, and managing distribution of messages.• Partners with Corporate Communications on all IT-related communications at the enterprise level.• Supports development and execution of communication strategies within the IT organization in support of the Chief Information Officer and IT Leadership Team to further organizational goals.• Supports development of internal departmental communication protocols that will foster consistent and integrated internal communications. Includes IT-wide emails and other written communications for IT leadership, initiative information and updates.• Supports large IT engagement events, such as “all hands” meetings. Includes coordinating calendars for scheduling and prep sessions. Supports development of and facilitates presentations and meeting Q&A. Handles documentation and follow-up after meetings.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree• In addition to required degree, 5 years related work experience• In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND 5 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 9 year(s) related work experience

Desired Qualifications

• Masters degree in Communications

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately using written and verbal communications.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate technically complex topics into plain language.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple simultaneous efforts in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, Yammer and OneDrive.

  • Competency in one or more complementary disciplines such as change management (Prosci / ADKAR), survey design, project management, training, human-centered design, user experience, or graphic design.

  • Comfortable with collaboration tools such as Miro, Poll Everywhere, Kahoot, etc.

  • Previous energy industry experience.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills to work efficiently and effectively with clients, teammates, and management.

  • Experience in providing communications counsel and advice to executives .
