Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Work with the business and technical stakeholders to identify data requirements.

  2. Work with our business stakeholders across PPL to understand their business needs and translate those needs to implement solutions using ML/AI.

  3. Hands-on in creating prototypes and SDK’s for core algorithms.

  4. Develop machine learning applications according to requirements.

  5. Select appropriate datasets and data representation methods.

  6. Run machine learning tests and experiments.

  7. Perform statistical analysis and fine-tuning using test results.

  8. Train and retrain systems when necessary.

  9. Extend existing ML libraries and frameworks.

  10. Optimize models developed by the Data Science team for deployment.

  11. Automate and orchestrate model testing and deployment.

  12. Effectively communicate complex technical data results to target audience.

  13. Implement ongoing improvements to methods and algorithms that lead to findings, including new information.

  14. Document ML/AI dataset lineage and governance

  15. Collaborate with Data Visualization Technologists to visualize and report data findings creatively in a variety of visual formats that appropriately provides insights to the business.

  16. May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.

Position Summary:

PPL’s Data & Analytics Office is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to be an integral part of the Digital Transformation. The Machine Learning Engineer designs and implements processes and layouts for complex, large-scale data sets used for predictive modeling, data mining, and research purposes. They work with the business stakeholders to identify data requirements, and work with the business to fine tune models and own model deployments.

In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field with 2 to 3 years of experience.

  2. Strong in programming languages like SQL, Python, R, and Scala

  3. Familiarity with business intelligence tools (e.g., PowerBI)

  4. Experience with Azure ML Services and data processing techniques such as Spark

  5. Advanced ability to perform exploratory data analysis.

  6. Experience with common data science toolkits and model development

  7. Extensive knowledge of ML frameworks, libraries, data structures, data modeling, and software architecture

  8. Working knowledge of statistics, algebra and math

  9. Exceptional technical writing skills

  10. Ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way.

  11. Ability to visualize data in the most effective way possible for a given project or study.

  12. Analytical and problem-solving skills

  13. Experience with predictive modeling, machine learning and AI.

  14. Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets, and approaches related to data protection.

  15. Knowledge of data related government regulatory requirements and emerging trends and issues.
