About The Position

The Grid Technology Advisor has distribution engineering or operations experience and provides a role that fills the gap between Digital Operations and DCO/Field Operations. They would advise both groups on actions needed to operate VO, DER and DA systems

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and operating the Voltage Optimization Equipment, Distribution Automation, Private LTE communication equipment and Distribution Energy Resource Management System (Solar, Wind and Battery) (future) Systems as they continue to expand in our service territory

  • Monitor ADMS RTU communications, and report issues to the appropriate business line for repair.

  • Serve as the reporting center within the DCO for ADMS communication issues.

  • Be the primary operating liaison between the different business lines to track existing communications and equipment issues to their resolution. This includes DER customer operations and maintenance groups that connect and generate on the AIC distribution and sub-transmission system.

  • Work with the provisioning center to track VO/DA/DER cell modem IP addressing, providing crypto maps, and sim cards.

  • Provide technical assistance and direction to the Distribution Systems Operations Supervisors (DSOS) and Distribution Control Office (DCO) Superintendents.

  • Apply broad knowledge across Distribution Operating and coordinate cross-discipline efforts.

  • Oversees complex switching requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures.

  • Shares own expertise for the good of the organization. Contributes through others; develops, mentors, & coaches co-workers in Distribution Operations.

  • Identify issues or alarms that require engineering expertise. Analyze the situation and provide the information necessary to restore outages in a safe and timely manner.

  • Communicate effectively and act as a Subject Matter Expert with multiple internal and external stakeholders including construction divisions, operations, engineering work groups, governmental personnel, and customers

  • Provide mentoring and informal coaching for DSOSs.

  • Act as a subject matter expert for training DSOSs. Contribute information for the training material.

  • Perform starting supervisor duties on distribution, transmission, and customer switchgear startups.

  • Assist in the programming and implementation of distribution automation schemes.

  • Use knowledge of power quality to determine the source of customer issues.

  • Perform technical system studies including load flow analysis, and/or short circuit analysis to determine system loading during contingencies and to determine fault locations.

  • Identify issues or alarms that require expert analysis from various company personnel (System Relay Services, Planning, and Substation Maintenance) and utilize these experts, whether during regular or off hours. Coordinate responses to make determination of best course of action to maintain system reliability, while maintaining public and employee safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university preferred.

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering preferred. Professional Engineer (P.E.) License is preferred.

  • Seven or more years of electric utility distribution engineering experience required.

OR

  • A minimum of six years experience as a Distribution Systems Operations Supervisor with Ameren in either Illinois or Missouri.

Location will depend on successful candidate. Decatur or Peoria are preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; Working knowledge of corporate computer applications (OAS, CSS, DOJM, ADMS; Good analytical, decision making, communication, organization and human relations skills, and be able to interact effectively with various stakeholders; and the following Ameren competencies: Think Customer, Inspire and Engage, Foster Innovation, Drive Results, Champion Learning, Build Trust, and Be Strategic.

Additional Information

The Grid Technology Advisor works in an office and field environment which can include walking over rough terrain. Subject shift work and to emergency call-out and duty supervisor responsibilities. May be called in after hours or required to work in unpleasant weather conditions.
