Arizona Public Service Energy/IT Solutions Analyst II/III in United States

Responsibilities

The Transmission Operations Real Time Support Team has an opportunity for an Energy IT/Solutions Analyst II/III who will assist in the coordination and management of business client and IT requests from development, testing, documentation, QA and Production implementations through the maintenance of improvements to the Energy Management System (EMS),the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, and other utility control center automation systems. Successful execution of diverse projects and troubleshooting emergent issues will require coordination and cooperation among numerous functional areas to meet critical objectives while adhering to IT best practices and established policies. Provide research, data, and analysis and ensure proper configuration and support of the Energy Management System (EMS). Communicate extensively with the business clients and other IT groups about requests, current status, planned work, issues and any other potential impacts occurring on a day to day basis. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organized, and desire to work in a changing and unique area of the IT and utility space.

Required Education and Experience for level II

Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field and 2 years of prior relevant experience in utility industry or equivalent combination of education and directly industry related experience.

Required Education and Experience for level III

  • Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field and 5 years of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.

  • Requires strong technical knowledge within a job area or system and basic knowledge across related technical areas.

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge, or Qualifications

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of computer science and/or engineering.

  • Experience with Energy Management Systems, specifically Siemens Spectrumapplication preferred.

  • Ability to troubleshoot Red Hat/Linux Operating Systems (OS) and preferably Windows OS as well.

  • Ability to read and understand lines of code, identify issues and errors within code and how to correct and implement solutions to code issues.

  • Understanding and ability to query, extract, modify and insert data in Oracle databases. Ability to design and support interfaces to Oracle databases.

  • Understand Inter-Control Center Communication Protocol (ICCP), how it works in an Energy Management System (EMS), how to create ICCP links inside an EMS and how to troubleshoot issues with ICCP points and links.

  • Understand Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA),how it works in an EMS, what the data is used for and how to help troubleshoot SCADA issues

  • Understand Remote Terminal Units and Distributed Network Protocol (DNP), how they interface with the EMS, what the data is used for and how to help troubleshoot RTU issues.

  • Understand Automatic Generation Control (AGC), how it works in the EMS, what the function is used for and how to help troubleshoot AGC issues.

  • Ability to design, support, and maintain interfaces to and from the EMS, identify issues and errors within the interfaces and how to correct and implement solutions inside the interfaces.

  • Ability to read and write Java code, conceptually understand Jboss user interfaces and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB).

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word and Excel.

  • Knowledge of safety policies, practices and procedures; generation, transmission and distribution system design, operations, and procedures; systems software and database administration; network and workstation technologies; technical issues related to energy management systems and applications; software, hardware and telecommunication; systems for real-time data collection and exchange. Skill in developing and writing technical documentation; evaluating and testing emerging technologies
