South Jersey Industries Director, Government Affairs in United States

Position Summary

Reports To: SVP, General Counsel

Supervises: Individual Contributors

Basic Function: A career in Government Relations Leadership will provide you the opportunity to lead and manage all Government Relations activities in support of the organization’s strategic operations activities.

Roles within Government Relations Leadership are responsible for all state and local government affairs functions within an organization. This includes working with state/local and regulatory agencies to influence decisions that impact the organization and tracking and advising the organization on legislation and regulatory issues that could impact the company. In addition you will serve as the primary external facing lobbyist on behalf of the company and direct and manage all of the organization's lobbying activities at the State level; including, but not limited to, the tracking of proposed legislation, regulations, and governmental directives, orders, resolutions and policies that have a potential impact upon the company.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and 11 of experience in Government Relations required

Advanced degree (JD) and 8 years of experience preferred

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and maintains policies and programs to ensure organizational awareness of government legislation and/or regulatory issues that affect the organization and respond to same.

  • Ensures that the organization's interests are represented and protected in legislative proceedings and in the development of market rules and procedures.

  • Prepares and organizes forums and gatherings with government officials to exchange ideas and information on business activities and potential legislation that may affect the organization.

  • Develop and manage the corporate strategic giving and grant programs to ensure that such activities and investments support corporate objectives, enhance strategic community relationships, and align with long-term organizational goals.

  • Manage and oversee corporate memberships in, and responsibilities related to, industry trade organizations to ensure maximization of value.

  • Manage the work of 3rd party government affairs consultants retained by the company.

  • Oversee companywide compliance with Election Law Enforcement Commission requirements.

  • Acts as a resource on regulatory matters with regard to product changes.

  • Provides leadership and direction through Senior Managers and Managers

  • Performs special legal projects as assigned
