Job Summary:

Duke Energy's DXT Strategy & Delivery organization is looking for a creative and self-driven Associate Software Engineer to join our agile culture. Qualified developers will have an opportunity to work on an array of challenges in the customer mobile application space, having a direct impact on the day to day experiences of our customers. Individuals must be passionate about technical health, bring a positive attitude and an express interest in learning full-stack development across our platform.

Over time this team member will be introduced to development tasks for both back-end and front-end (iOS and Android) support and backlog items, beginning with the work most applicable to their current skillsets and abilities. This role will often be paired with a Software Engineer to train and collaborate on solutions, increase knowledge, and grow a full cross platform skill set. They should have a strong sense of development concepts, and best practices.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Maintains and enhances applications as part of a durable product team

  • Actively works on after hours support rotation

  • Researches and evaluates technology to optimize efficiency, performance, and usability

  • Maintains records to document system and programming development and revisions

  • Shares knowledge and insight to improve the product and overall team skill set

  • Leverages automation when applicable to deliver quality solutions to our end users

  • Applies iterative development to continuously deliver value through frequent deployments

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in computer science or related discipline

  • One (1) or more years as an application developer on a commercial or highly scaled application

  • Prior use of Git, some exposure to Java cloud native APIs

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in complex problem solving and an understanding of quality delivery

  • Ability to work with an Agile (Scrum and Kanban) team

  • Back-end Development:

  • Knowledge of back-end app architectures, object-oriented programming and design, code testing, debugging, basic Linux, and JavaScript

  • Exposure to Java Spring, SQL, Bash, Building and deploying a microservice

  • Front-end Development iOS

  • Proficiency with Xcode, Swift, Foundation/Cocoa APIs, UIKit, dependency management (CocoaPods, Carthage, Swift Package Manager)

  • Understanding of System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

  • Beneficial exposure to MVVM, ReactiveKit/RxSwift, SwiftUI, Combine, XCTest

  • Front-end Development Android

  • Knowledge of Android dev (clean code practices, custom views, Jetpack Compose, AAR libraries, refactoring, unit testing and debugging)

Some exposure to Kotlin (scope and extension functions
