Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor financial activities for assigned areas within Gas Engineering to ensure accurate financial distribution according to general and FERC accounting principles

  • Budgeting, forecasting, and monitoring actuals for assigned financial activities for Capital/O&M according to policies and procedures issued by various regulatory bodies

  • Interface with Engineers to determine and review budget, forecasts, cash flow projections, variances, identify budget risks and gap analysis. Work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality “Internal Customer Service”.

  • Interface with Enterprise Project Management “EPM” – Project Controls to determine and review project budget, forecasts, cashflow projections, variances, AFUDC, identify budget risks and gap analysis. Work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality “Internal Customer Service”.

  • Analyze, interpret and verify financial documents and reports; make corrections and update as necessary

  • Month-end close process including accruals, journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance explanations

  • Support financial reporting, consolidated financial reporting and audit responses

  • Assist with rate case filings and discovery responses as required

  • Interact with internal and external clients to identify, research and analyze situations

  • Strategic Financial Alignment

  • Support the Changelog process and activities.

  • Support LTFP and Flex Plan processes and activities

  • Support Annual Budget Process

  • Support the development and implementation of standardization of financial work processes, continuous improvement by automating and leveraging technology and process protocol across Gas Engineering areas to support the Company’s strategic goals.


  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.

  • 3+ years of experience.

The Accounting Analyst Job Family is utilized primarily in the Controller’s department. Performing all of the accounting functions for the Company including but not limited to: Financial Accounting – Month, Quarter, Year-end journal entries, reconciliations, financial statement preparation and analysis; Management Accounting – budgeting, forecasting, financial statement preparation and analysis; Compliance – internal controls, SOX, and other compliance roles; Management Accounting – support business decision making with budgets, forecasts, cost analysis, performance reporting such as KPIs and Dashboards, project analysis, ROI, NPV, and IRR.

Nature of Work

The essence of the work that is performed by the Accounting Analyst Job Family is a wide variety of accounting functions, involving following generally accepted accounting practices and using accepted accounting theory.

At the lowest level in this job family, the work performed may tend to be of a routine and less complex nature where the work responsibilities can be proficiently performed after a relatively short training period.

At the highest levels in this job family the work performed will tend to be of a complex nature involving knowledge of various functional/specialized disciplines where the work responsibilities can only be proficiently performed after a relatively long training / experience-related time period and often requires an advanced degree. The work environment often includes dealing with risk and limiting exposure.

Leadership, management, facilitation and interaction with senior management will be markedly increased at the mid - highest levels of this job family while the need for direction and supervision will be markedly decreased. While problem solving and analysis will likely be required at all levels, recommendation and implementation becomes the norm at the highest levels and will often have a major bearing on the company’s business. In addition, skills such as the ability to think on your feet, composure under fire and effective communication across all levels of the organization and with outside stakeholders become more finely honed at the higher levels.

Essential Functions

Oversee the management of general ledger, production of periodic reports, year-end financial reporting, and coordination of the accounting and reporting close schedules with departments. Ensure effective communication to facilitate and ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Act as liaison to internal and external auditors and participate in auditing projects or provide information and access to accounting records. Responsible for the accuracy of financial records by conducting ongoing review of policies and procedures with state and federal regulations, code, ordinances, CAAP, GAGAS and BARS. Supervise and coordinate the activities of a designated unit; determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and determine methods for expediting work flow; assigns, reviews and approves the work of subordinate staff. Review accounting pronouncements issued by various regulatory bodies, such as the GAAP Board, and recommend revision to policies and procedures. Assist Accounting Manager with planning and implementation of financial projects and programs. Maintain records of all fund activities; analyze and reconcile fund charges and recommend necessary adjustments. Analyze, interpret, and verify financial documents and reports; make corrections and update as necessary. Regular, predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours at assigned worksite is expected.

Hours and Travel

Some occasional travel required for off-site meetings, training or between company locations. Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.
