South Jersey Industries Dispatcher II in Union, New Jersey

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to effectively manage emergencies. This role is directly responsible for managing the day to day workload for field employees and managing the priority response phone calls from internal and external customers.In addition, this role is responsible for customer appointments through proper monitoring and follow-up care, while ensuring customer safety and adhering to commitments and company standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to identify, assess, prioritize and effectively dispatch emergency work in a timely and accurate manner

  • Ability to work in a safety sensitive environment and often make decisions to ensure the safety of our customers

  • Effectively manage daily workload by review and reallocation of work to ensure timely a response to all required work; normally responsible for approximately 50+ employee/day

  • Ability to make sound and timely business decisions while managing adversity in a fast-paced environment

  • Effectively manage customer appointments through proper monitoring and follow-up to ensure customer commitments are met

  • Ability to function as a supportive member of a team on a consistent basis

  • Receive and process priority response phone calls from internal and external customers.

  • Knowledge of work management and phone systems.



  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 1+ years of related experience.

  • MS Office proficiency

  • Must be able to multi-task

  • Must demonstrate the ability to remain flexible at all times

  • Ability to make timely and accurate decisions

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers

  • Must seek out solutions

  • Must be able and willing to work night shift.

  • Ability to handle basic issues and problems under direct supervision.

  • Possesses beginning working knowledge of dispatch and emergency response.


  • BA/BS business related degree

  • Experience will be accepted in lieu of degree: 2 more years in addition to the required years of work experience.

  • Knowledge of the properties of natural gas or other utilities.

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/ English)

    Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time

  • High intensity work environment at times
