A career in Contract Construction will provide the opportunity to provide construction support responsible on the field side of the work. This typically includes monitoring, inspecting, and maintaining projects from start to finish. This also includes scheduling meetings routinely throughout the project to move project to completion. Additionally, this role may help ensure company initiatives are on track. This typically involves measuring performance within functional teams and working closely with other functions. Roles within Contract Construction are responsible for oversight of all capital construction work. This includes, planning, assigning, monitoring, and reporting out on all construction work completed by SJI employees and by contractors. This also includes execution of a strategic plan that is related to construction implementation and oversight, customer service, and quality controls. The team will establish the priorities and also determine resource allocation for the effective and efficient delivery of multiple projects simultaneously. This also involves maintaining a strict schedule compared to estimated time of completion.
The purpose of this position is to oversee and manage contractor resources on capital construction projects/programs to the gas transmission and distribution systems for Elizabethtown Gas. This position is accountable for supervising external contractor crews who are responsible for timely delivery of all projects in a safe, quality, and cost-effective manner, compliant with all federal, state, local, and corporate requirements. This person drives quality and safety expectations and ensures that those standards are met in the field.
- Oversees construction of gas utility infrastructure for residential, commercial, and industrial properties.2. Makes decisions in the field and coordinates with internal and/or external service providers and supports other departments and external agencies to ensure that work is performed as planned, permitted, and scheduled. 3. Supervise and inspect all construction activities (safety, compliance, quality, locates and restoration).4. Reviews and approves work orders, progress reports, field changes, invoices, as-built records and bid contracts to ensure compliance and company standards and policies.5. Maintains customer satisfaction through timely and thorough communication with individual customers, municipalities and other governmental agencies at pre-con meetings and throughout the project (such as state DOTS, Counties, etc).6. Champions Quality Assurance (e.g., policies, procedures, standards) and Quality Control on all capital construction projects7. Serves developers, builders, homeowners, and Service Center personnel as initial contact for new business construction problems and complaints.8. Drives results through performance management of external and indirect resources including setting expectations, evaluating results, and taking corrective action as needed9. Directs “root-cause” analysis on any self-inflicted gas damage or customer outage related to construction10. Influences external contractors who represent the company by shadowing corporate values.
Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience, or;
Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience.
Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
5+ years of overseeing construction and/or distribution operations in a gas utility or equivalent work experience
Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Contract and performance management
Walking construction sites and potential driving up to four (4) hours at a time
Experience in gas industry focused on capital construction and maintenance
CWPI or CWI
Experience in gas or related industry with experience in field inspection activities, project control activities, process improvements, business systems, or related activities
MS Office Products – intermediate proficiency
