South Jersey Industries Assistant Project Manager in Union, New Jersey

Position Summary

A career in Program Management will offer the opportunity to monitor projects from start to finish. This also includes scheduling meetings routinely throughout the project to move project to completion. Additionally, this role may help ensure company initiatives are on track. This typically involves measuring performance within functional teams and working closely with other functions. Roles within Program Management are responsible for oversight of capital construction work. This includes, planning, assigning, monitoring, and reporting out on all construction work completed by contractors. This also includes execution of a strategic plan that is related to construction implementation and oversight, customer service, and quality controls. The team will establish the priorities and also determine resource allocation for the effective and efficient delivery of multiple projects simultaneously. This also involves maintaining a strict schedule compared to estimated time of completion.

This position is an exciting opportunity for business and construction management professionals that enjoy project management responsibilities. The incumbent is accountable for overseeing the full project life cycle of capital construction projects under accelerated infrastructure improvement and new business strategic initiatives. The incumbent is responsible for developing, documenting, implementing and executing on project and program management processes to drive the successful completion of Company objectives. The incumbent is accountable for tracking the status of numerous projects, scheduling, resource management, forecasting, cost analysis, processing change orders, and leading coordination efforts with internal and external stakeholders.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Construction Management, or comparable degree

  • A minimum of 3 years experience required



  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

  • Project management (scheduling, cost control, forecasting, contracts, etc.)

  • MS Office Products – intermediate proficiency


  • Experience in gas or related industry focused on project control activities, process improvements, business systems, or related activities

  • E.I.T, P.E., PMP

  • Knowledge of Primavera P6 or other scheduling software

  • Knowledge of Workday Projects or Power Plan

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as the lead on capital construction projects through the full life cycle

  • Implements and executes PMO business processes

  • Implements project execution plans

  • Identifies and properly manages project risks

  • Ensures that contract schedule of values are clearly defined/consistent with corporate WBS/CBS

  • Prepares and presents project metrics to indicate project health (EVA, Financial Analysis, Schedule, Risk, etc.) for presentation to business owner and upper management

  • Ensures that scope changes are appropriately addressed per the Change Management process (e.g. adequately documented, impact analysis, approved, etc.)

  • Ensures that projects are managed to budget and schedule

  • Monitors and reports construction progress to ensure projects meet or exceed budget and schedule goals

  • Creates and/or implements improved processes and techniques to enhance operating environments

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
