Job Description - Student Intern, Customer Applications

We are looking for Student Intern to join our IS Customer Applications team. Must be a full time student pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Applied Technology, or related field with a graduation date of May 2025 or later. Our internships are year round paid positions. Interns are provided a minimum of 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during summer and other school breaks.

  • Assist IS team with gathering data for support tickets and projects.

  • Summarize data and propose design views into reports, newsletters, presentations and other media.

  • Create surveys and organize and report data.

  • Comfortable communicating with people at various levels throughout the company

  • Office365 experience

  • Technical background is helpful.

  • Ability to travel to TEP downtown headquarters and Irvington campus as necessary.

Position Description

The IS Customer Application / Engineering Applications department is responsible for supporting desktop applications and complex enterprise applications used by multiple business units and external partners. Assists IS personnel and consults with business clients in the use of information technology and application systems. Works directly with application vendors, application service providers to meet UNS business needs.

The intern will be expected to 1) support our Software Development Life Cycle process, 2) learn how to apply shared technical knowledge to support application Break/fix service models for the purpose of maintaining high application availability, and 3) participate as a team member in our Application Portfolio Projects.

The intern should be seeking a degree in Applied Technology or Information Technology and must possess analytical skills and expand upon those skills as part of the internship. The intern will contribute to the expansion and enhancement of the department's application support and implementations, which are being increasingly challenged by the technical complexities of our environment.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, troubleshoots, supports, and configures information systems to support business processes across multiple graduations and business units.

  • Reviews work requests from clients and develops estimates for work to be performed based on industry standard estimation methodology.

  • Gathers business requirements and recommends solutions to clients for the improvement of existing or proposed systems to enhance the functionality being delivered.

  • Collaborates with IS infrastructure, network and security teams to develop technical requirements necessary to implement a successful project with minimal risk.

  • Educates clients in understanding the operations and capabilities of their information systems.

  • Participates in a team environment and performs assignments as requested by the group or team lead. Executes project assignments and coordinates priorities with team leads and clients.

  • Continually increases the understanding of utility business functions and processes and functionality in chosen technology track.

  • Efficiently utilizes Information Services standards, tools, equipment, and training.

  • Conforms to corporate procedures and Information Services guidelines.

  • Develops software testing, validation requirements, and use cases during the design process.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong critical thinking skills

  • Strong analytical skills, including a basic understanding of coding. Powershell preferred.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

  • Ability to protect highly sensitive and confidential information

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software

  • Good time management skills

Requirements

  • Student must be pursuing a degree in a relevant field, such as Applied Technology or Information Technology with a graduation date of May 2025 or later.

  • Must be a full-time college student, at least 12 credit hours, in an accredited University or community college and maintain a good academic standing

  • Must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during regular business hours; Up to 40 hours may be available during the summer and school breaks

  • Student Interns are employed on a temporary basis and are generally not eligible for some benefits; including holiday pay

  • Scheduling of work hours and assignments should be made taking into consideration that Student Interns are students first and employees second

Pay Rate: $16.00/hour + Depending on year in school
