The IT Customer Applications team has the awesome opportunity to deliver on the corporate strategy for our Customers. We maintain and build on an application portfolio that stretches from a Customer Information System to the latest digital applications. We deliver on a product portfolio that includes, Web, Mobile, Voice and Back Office functions and have the accountability to continually innovate on these products for our customers.

Principal IT Program Manager – Digital Product Management

Manages all aspects of IT projects/teams, typically involving multiple disciplines in the IT function. Utilizes expertise and leadership skills to direct staff and resolve issues to ensure project/team goals and requirements are met. May employ Agile techniques and project management practices.

Requires a recognized expert within the company. Anticipates internal and or external business challenges, vendor and/or regulatory issues; recommends process, product or service improvements. Solves unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Takes full responsibility for the definition, documentation and successful completion of complex projects (typically with significant business, political or high-profile impact and high-risk dependencies). Selects methods and tools, using iterative techniques where appropriate, ensuring that effective project control, change control, risk management and testing processes are maintained. Monitors and controls resources, revenue and capital costs against the project budget and manages expectations of all project stakeholders.

  • Portfolio, Program and Project Support: Defines the approach/policy and sets standards for the support provided for managing and monitoring portfolios, programs and projects. This can also include the governance/management of resources, directing and leading the implementation and ongoing operation of an effective service organization, ensuring delivery of effective services/resources in line with current and planned demand and reviewing the effective provision.

  • Methods and Tools: Sets direction and leads in the introduction and use of techniques, methodologies and tools to match overall business requirements (both current and future), ensuring consistency across all user groups.

  • Data Analysis: Sets standards for data analysis tools and techniques, advises on their application and ensures compliance. Manages the investigation of corporate data requirements and coordinates the application of data analysis and data modelling techniques, based upon a detailed understanding of the corporate information requirements, in order to establish, modify or maintain data structures and their associated components (entity descriptions, relationship descriptions, attribute definitions).

  • Financial Management: Advises on financial planning and budgeting. Develops financial plans and forecasts. Monitors and manages IT expenditure, ensuring that all IT financial targets are met, and examining any areas where budgets and expenditure exceed their agreed tolerances. Assists with the definition and operation of effective financial control and decision-making, especially in the areas of service, projects and component cost models and the allocation and apportionment of all incurred IT costs. Analyzes actual expenditure, explains variances and advises on options in use of available budget. Business Process Improvement: Brings about significant improvements and measurable business benefits by identifying, proposing, initiating and leading significant programs of improvement. Enhances existing approaches to process improvement and/or develops new approaches.

  • Portfolio Management: Leads the definition of a portfolio of programs, projects and/or ongoing service provision. Engages and influences senior managers to ensure the portfolio will deliver the agreed business objectives. Plans, schedules, monitors and reports on activities related to the portfolio to ensure that each part of the portfolio contributes to the overall achievement of the portfolio. Collects, summarizes and reports on portfolio KPIs often through the deployment of business management processes and systems. Identifies issues with portfolio structure, cost, risk, interdependencies, impact on current business activities and the strategic benefits to be realized. Notifies projects/programs/change initiatives of issues and recommends and monitors corrective action. Reports on portfolio status as appropriate.

  • Systems Development Management: Defines solution development projects which support the organization's objectives and plans. Ensures that senior management is both aware of and able to provide the required resources. Contributes effectively to improving solution development processes within the organization justified by measurable business benefits. Facilitates availability and optimum utilization of resources, especially in Agile projects. Monitors and reports on the progress of development projects, ensuring that projects are carried out in accordance with agreed standards, methods and procedures (including secure software development). Applies secure development improvement practices.


  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, engineering management or other related field or equivalent experience.

  • Typically, ten or more years of experience in the development, implementation and maintenance of large-scale IT systems, with eight or more years in a project management role.

  • Three to four years’ solid experience in IT portfolio or program management.

  • Experience in an Agile/Scrum software development environment highly desired.

  • Digital product & portfolio management: Oversees the digital product management function to develop and manage a digital customer solutions portfolio to achieve customer experience and revenue objectives.

  • Align technology programs with content management and marketing teams across PGE.

  • Define tools & process improvements to support organizational excellence across Customer portfolio.

  • Work with product & application teams to build cohesive strategic roadmaps to support digital channels (web, mobile, voice).

  • Work across Digital & IT teams to align critical strategic priorities, resource planning & to support operational excellence.

  • Develop & maintain communication plans to socialize alignment across Customer portfolio.

  • Develops roadmaps and operational plans based on feedback from stakeholders and delivers all features and functionality across our digital platforms.

  • PMI Portfolio Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP).

  • Expert knowledge of IT project management.

  • Expert knowledge in the development, maintenance and implementation of complex, large-scale IT systems and integrated business solutions.

  • Expert knowledge in business process development and continuous improvement.

  • Expert knowledge in establishing detailed work plans and staffing needs for each phase of the project. Arrange for the assignment or recruitment of appropriate project personnel.

  • Expert knowledge of standard project management tools and techniques.

  • Expert knowledge in developing and updating project plan, schedule, risk management plan, change management plan and communications plan.
