PAY RANGE: Engineer I: $58,400 - $73,000

Engineer II: $71,200 - $89,000

Staff Engineer: $79,600 - $99,500

Sr Engineer: $80,600 - $107,500

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of EMS (Energy Management System) management, this job is responsible for providing engineering support of the systems and technologies that are encompassed within the EMS. The major responsibilities include: design, support, debugging, troubleshooting, implementation, and project management for Automatic Generation Control (AGC), system calculations, energy market systems, real-time database changes, ICCP, data historian, system reporting, software development, and product upgrades. Will support all aspects of EMS system operation and projects.

The EMS is a mission critical system that is used to monitor and control the Electric Power Grid.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Strong electrical or computer engineering experience preferred. The preferred candidate will have experience with the OSI Monarch or comparable Energy Management System.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

Requires knowledge of basic engineering principles and advanced mathematics. Requires proficient knowledge and skills in the applicable engineering discipline as well as detailed knowledge of systems in area of responsibility. Must be proficient in the ability to use database, spreadsheet, word processing, and applicable engineering software applications. The above duties and responsibilities are accomplished through vendor specialized training and knowledge in using vendor proprietary tools along with industry standard tools as follows: UNIX/Linux, Windows, XML, Unix/Linux Debugging, gcc C compiler, Cassandra databases and SQL. Preferred knowledge of various communications technologies (Microwave radio, cell modem, Nokia SAR, etc) and protocols (DNP3, Telegyr 8979) for communicating with substation field equipment. Knowledge of troubleshooting packet level communications.is desired.

Successful candidate must be able to evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications.

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

Valid driver's license required. Must obtain a NERC CIP Security Clearance upon offer acceptance which requires 7 year background screen.

Working Conditions and Core Competencies:

  • Must be able to travel to Evergy locations as required.

  • Must be able to change work schedule as required by the workload, system operational requirements.

  • This position has a rotating on-call list. When on-call, must be able to respond on a 24-hour per day/seven days per week basis. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.

  • Provide technical assistance in support of other team members

  • Apply technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction

  • Ability to apply engineering principles to find solutions and/or troubleshoot problems

  • Demonstrate ability to think creatively and resourcefully in devising practical, cost effective solutions to issues.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex engineering systems and electrical substation blueprints.
