MasTec Utility Services Safety Coordinator in Tallahassee, Florida
Our company is searching for an experienced Safety Coordinator to join our team. The Safety Coordinator anticipates and predicts hazards based on experience, historical data and other informational sources. He/she identifies and recognizes hazards in existing or future systems, equipment, products, facilities, work sites and operational work procedures. The safety coordinator evaluates and assesses the probability and severity of loss events and accidents which may result from actual or potential hazards. The professional applies methods of conducting hazard analyses and interprets the results. The safety coordinator provides advice and counseling about compliance with safety, health and environmental laws, codes, regulations, standards and the related Company requirements. The safety coordinator is a part of a team of other safety professionals within the organization that consults, shares and contributes safety and health information and resources. The safety coordinator executes their duties, obligations and directions with a professional and skilled manner. We are looking for an individual who is efficient and comfortable being a member of a team.
Safety oversight in overhead/underground electric and telecom infrastructure construction.
Train and observe employees on proper safety behaviors, hazard recognition/pre-job briefings.
Competencies in electric isolating and insulating, excavating, HDD, confined space entry, utility damage prevention, MOT, and CPR.
Anticipates, identifies and evaluates hazardous conditions and practices
Develops hazard control designs, methods, procedures and programs
Implements, administers and advises others on hazard controls and hazard control programs
Measures, audits and evaluates the effectiveness of hazard controls and hazard control programs
Basic qualifications for this position:
Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from an accredited College or University (preferred)
Associate's Degree in a technical or engineering discipline and 3-5 years of safety-related or specialized technical experience (acceptable)
Or 10 year's work experience in the electric/telecom industry or power generation construction
Certification in, or pursuit of any of the following certifications (preferred but not required):
Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST)
Occupational Health and Safety Technology (OHST)
Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP)
Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Any other recognized certification related to safety, risk management and/or training.
Technical experience that may include any aspects of utilities infrastructure construction, operation, and maintenance (electric, natural gas, telecommunications, water) including overhead or underground electric distribution systems, underground or aerial telecommunications systems, underground natural gas distribution systems, DOT/CDL - heavy equipment operations, excavating, safety management systems, mobile cranes / digger derrick operations, qualified electric lineman, pipeline Operator Qualification, etc
Valid vehicle operator’s / driver’s license
Valid authorization to legally work in the U.S.
OSHA 500/30/20, Strong S1926/S1910 industry standards, high voltage electricity, FMCSA/DOT regulations, excavating/trenching competent person.
