Position Description

Tacoma Water (https://www.mytpu.org/about-tpu/services/water/) has an opportunity for a Senior Engineering Project Manager to join our Planning & Engineering Section. This position oversees the project management, communication, and oversite of utility projects of significant scope for Tacoma Water using professional project management methodology (PMI). This role is intended to coordinate Tacoma Water's interest in USACE's Howard A. Hansen Dam project located in the Green River watershed. Time will be spent working from both the Tacoma Public Utilities Building in Tacoma, WA and the Tacoma Water Green River treatment facility located in Ravensdale, WA.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide project oversight and responsibility for implementation of large, complex projects for Tacoma Water

  • Collaborate and communicate with the program management staff and stakeholders on behalf of Water to effectively identify, communicate needs, and support implementation for Water projects

  • Manage and monitor project scope, budget, schedule/progress, risks and report regularly or as needed on challenges and issue

  • Identify, develop, and foster strong relationships within Water and across TPU and the City as needed to support project work

  • Develop organizational change and training programs for successful project implementation

  • Manage the impacts of other projects and communicate effectively with other project leadership to ensure linkages and impacts are coordinated and appropriately managed

  • Attend project meetings and make recommendations to Sponsors and Executive Sponsors.

  • Attend training as needed to stay current with current market trends, and to maintain standing as a project management subject matter expert.

  • Identify, develop, and prepare business cases for major projects taking input from subject matter experts and other stakeholders

  • Assure the adherence to safety regulations, goals, and policies

    Who you will be working with:

You will be joining our Planning & Engineering (P&E) Section, responsible for performing planning and engineering services related to the following:

  • Regional transmission of water supply through 150 miles of large-diameter water mains, pumping stations, standpipes, and reservoirs

  • Local water distribution to our customers through over 1,350 miles of small-diameter water mains

  • Water supply forecasting and resourcing

  • Water quality, water treatment and regulatory compliance of the 150 million-gallons-per-day Green River Filtration Facility, in-town groundwater systems, and throughout the distribution system

  • Equipment related to electrical components, communications, instrumentation and control, and cathodic protection

  • Asset and System Planners who provide asset management and framework, water system modeling, and studies of the water system

Qualifications

Minimum Education*

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, project management or directly related field.

Minimum Experience*

5 years of progressively responsible professional capital construction project management experience.

*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements

Washington State Driver's License

Project Management Professional, Design Build Institute of America certification, or Professional Engineering License desired
