Job Purpose
National Grid is seeking a director responsible for the accounting and financial operations of the US Gas IT organization, reporting to the head of the US Gas IT portfolio.
In this role you'll be responsible for all US Gas IT financial management, analysis, and reporting, ensuring portfolio finances are both well-managed and clearly articulated. You'll also serve as an advisor to the US Gas IT portfolio head and other portfolio leads, ensuring they have the best financial, accounting, and recovery insights when making key decisions.
What you'll do
In your first 3 months you will:
Gain a comprehensive understanding of Gas IT finances, accounting practices, and financial requirements
Take over day-to-day management of current-state accounting operations
Provide an assessment of people, processes, and tools, basing findings on both quantitative and qualitative data
Make recommendations on how to streamline and optimize portfolio financial management and accounting taking into account dependencies and synergies with Electric IT portfolio
I n your first 6 months you will:
Institute portfolio-wide changes that quantitatively optimize financial management and accounting practices
Identify financial and accounting opportunities across the portfolio with a focus on more efficiently delivering value
Ensure there is an established process for continuous improvement of accounting and financial practices that is regularly tracked and reported on
Key Responsibilities include the following:
Serving as the source of truth for all portfolio accounting (budgeting, forecasting, accruals, actuals)
Acting as portfolio point person for all financial reporting
Coordinating with all relevant financial stakeholders including US finance, commercial, and procurement leads
Guiding Gas IT portfolio head and supporting team leads with financial information and insights
Advising on regulatory recovery implications of financial and accounting decisions
Ensuring compliance with all accounting standards, financial regulations, and relevant risk controls
Analyzing financial performance to identify trends, insights, risks, and opportunities
Optimizing portfolio accounting and financial management activities
Keeping the pulse of evolving accounting and financial standards relevant to the portfolio
Managing, mentoring, and developing supporting staff as appropriate
What you'll need
10+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience
4+ years in a managerial or supervisory role
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field
Demonstrable knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations
Proficient in accounting systems and business software
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
High attention to detail, accuracy, and quality
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
It would be awesome if you had
MBA or Masters degree in relevant field
Relevant certifications
Energy/utility industry experience
Data visualization experience
Digital transformation experience

Waltham, MA $174,000 - $205,000 a year
Brooklyn, NY $187,000 - $220,000 a year
Syracuse, NY $156,000 - $183,000 a year
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
