About The Position
The Environmental Engineer position will provide environmental regulatory support for the construction, maintenance, and operation of new and existing electric generation, energy delivery, transmission, and distribution projects and facilities.
Key responsibilities include:
Maintain a working knowledge of environmental regulatory programs associated with biological, chemical, ecological, surface and ground water quality and waste management issues that are typically associated with electric generation, energy delivery, and transmission construction and operation.
Provide project management and/or coordination for permitting and/or regulatory approvals required by various local, state and federal regulatory authorities such as USEPA, USACE, USFWS, USFS, MDC and MDNR.
Provide regulatory interpretation and develop and communicate cost effective environmental compliance strategies to operating groups.
Interface with environmental regulatory agency personnel on the interpretation of regulations, study plans and permit conditions.
Assist in the Company’s expansion of solar, wind and energy storage resources from an environmental compliance perspective.
Represent the company in agency/stakeholder interactions and negotiations to best meet corporate goals and objectives while maintaining compliance with all local, state and federal environmental guidelines and laws.
Interface with outside contractors and internal departments (Legal, Generation, Energy Delivery, and Engineering) as part of the planning, data collection, permit preparation process and report generation process.
Perform field duties and studies as necessary to support company operations.
Monitor and analyze data, generate and/or review written reports to document field work and/or secure regulatory agency approvals.
Develop work scopes, schedules and cost estimates as necessary to support budget and project objectives.
Manage multiple and complex tasks and on-going projects.
Bachelor or Master of Science (or Arts) Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering preferred. Candidates with degrees Chemistry, Biology, or an environmental related field from an accredited college or university may be considered. Five or more years of experience and specific working knowledge of various local, state and federal permitting and regulatory requirements preferred. Seven or more years of environmental regulatory experience in Missouri and/or Illinois preferred. Professional Engineering licensure in Missouri (or the ability to attain licensure within 6 months) preferred.
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
Experience in working with electric utility industry projects preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience with permitting, rule interpretation and industry knowledge of Utility Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) work. The ideal candidate will also have experience working with solid waste (hazardous, special, and general) and the associated RCRA and other state and federal requirements. Working knowledge of PC based spreadsheet, data analysis, database development, operation, and word processing software required. Someone with an Engineering degree would be hired into the Engineering Tech Path. Candidates with other experience would align with the appropriate Environmental Scientist career path level (which is in similar to the engineering tech path).
