Production Operating Engineer – Repairman – Responsible for troubleshooting and performing adjustments/repairs to all steam-electric power plant equipment. Responsible for patrolling boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems equipment such as pumps, heat cycle equipment, coal handling and pulverizers and electrical switchgear, including transmission switchgear. Perform electrical switching and valving, place or remove WPA tags and other operating duties required in connection with removing equipment from service and returning equipment to service. Observe starting and operating conditions of equipment; make inspections, reports and corrections as required. Operate bottom ash sluicing, fly ash and pyrites systems as required or as assigned. Adjusts when equipment becomes faulty while operating or is available for operation in an attempt to insure continuous operation of the unit. This position is an operations position, and requires additional tasks and responsibilities of operating the plant equipment.
Certified Repairman – Responsible for troubleshooting and performing highly skilled electric arc, gas welding and curring, brazing, pipefitting and insulation installation and/or removal on all varieties of power plant equipment. Work includes a general range of highly skilled electric and gas welding brazing and cutting on boiler pressure parts, pressure vessels, and piping in accordance with the applicable ASME codes and which are subject to insurance underwriters inspection and certification. Perform other maintenance work on heavy mechanical equipment such as repair or replacement of leaking or weakened boiler tubes; structural steel erection; replacement of liner plates in fans, coal chutes and hoppers; welding repairs to castings and equipment; fitting and welding of all sizes of piping and valves, including items such as measuring, laying out, cutting, threading, bending, fitting and installation of pipe and tubing, replacement of flange, valve, and heater gaskets; valve repacking, repair and overhaul; cleaning and replacement of condenser and heat exchanger tubes; where applicable, the repair of traveling water screens. This position is within our Energy Center Shop Maintenance Department.
High School Diploma or GED
Qualification standards as established in the Apprenticeship Program. In event no graduating apprentice is available.
Must satisfy requirements as prescribed in the Supplementary Agreement on Uniform Practices Regarding Promotion to Repairman (Certified) Jobs.
Must have an Ameren UE Maintenance Journeyman background or must demonstrate equivalent knowledge and performance.
Must be able to climb ramps, ladders, and stairs, have no fear of height, have no trouble
working in close places.
Must pass prescribed welder qualification tests in accordance with the requirements of Section IX of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
- Working location could include our Sioux, Rush Island or Labadie Energy Centers.
