WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday – Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., 20-25 hours per week.

Position requires an employee to work between 20-25 hours per week during the school semesters, and 40 hours per week during summer, not to exceed 1,500 hours in a calendar year. Each semester, undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.

INTERN GUIDELINES:

Students who have completed at least one year of college and are enrolled as a full-time student may apply. Must be enrolled full-time in a degree seeking program. A student’s intern position will end within three months after graduation.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Supervisor-IT Applications or designee, is responsible for the design, integration, and implementation of software that supports the utility’s business strategies and objectives. This is considered a .NET developer position and requires technical skills and expertise in .NET (C#) to create and enhance effective end-user software interacting with complex relational database technologies. Will be required to create, maintain, and modify both web and windows applications. Experience with one or more software development lifecycle methodologies is preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Collaborates with customers to formulate system scope and objectives.

  2. Designs, writes, reviews, and tests computer programs and applications to provide innovative technical solutions that meet the needs of customers and the strategic objectives of City Utilities.

  3. Assists in the evaluation of present and proposed technical solutions, requirements, and procedures.

  4. Prepares detailed specifications from which programs will be written.

  5. Prepares complete documentation that complies with current standards.

  6. Participates in team reviews of system designs.

  7. Demonstrates and assists in training customers on the operation of new systems.

  8. Accepts responsibility for learning new languages, tool sets, and platforms.

  9. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Minimum one year of college working towards a degree with a major in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field is required.

Licensing/Certification:

Must have a valid driver’s license (minimum Class F).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to:

  • Develop software using Windows platform development tools (VisualStudio.NET, Entity Framework, and Azure DevOps/Team Foundation Server).

  • Handle sensitive information in a highly confidential manner.

  • Clearly communicate thoughts and ideas verbally and in writing.

  • Work independently and be responsible and timely with their work and schedule.

  • Familiarity with:

  • Relational database access and management tools (SSMS, TOAD, SQLPLUS).

  • Third-party reporting tools such as SQL Server Reporting Services and PowerBI.

  • IIS/webserver administration and configuration

Physical Requirements:

Typically, sedentary work. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and receive detailed information through oral communication. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, and close visual acuity to operate a computer is required.

Working Conditions:

Normal office environment.

Miscellaneous Requirements:

  • New hires are informed of the requirements of the Internship Education Program upon hire, and incumbents must continue to meet the requirements each semester in order to continue employment. Interns who do not meet the requirements may be ineligible for the Internship Program and their employment may be terminated.

  • Must be able to work successfully with diverse groups of people.

  • Employee must remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times and maintain the ability to respond to changing circumstances in a timely manner.
