About this Role

The Field Quality Engineer is part of the overall Operations Quality Management Team. The primary role is to support Project Managers and the Quality Manager with execution of quality management plans, interpretation of design drawings/specifications, project documentation, operational planning, scheduling, etc.

Crux projects are diverse and will include deep foundation construction along transmission corridors, within substations, along highways, on rivers/lakes, and on the top of mountains throughout the United States and Canada which requires our field engineers to travel for extended periods of time.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and oversee inspection of work quality and material used on projects.

  • Competently review and interpret all geologic and geotechnical data in advance of fieldwork.

  • Review plans and specifications to determine material requirements, pricing of materials, etc.

  • Install and operate downhole instrumentation and/or geophysical testing, track test results, and troubleshoot when issues arise.

  • Perform engineering tasks requiring standard techniques and handling minor problems of a technical nature arising during construction.

  • Maintain records as required, including inspection reports, job progress, cost controls, and material usage.

  • Collect geologic data of sufficient detail to make geotechnical interpretations. Investigate problems and/or reporting incidents; identify and recommend solutions/alternatives as appropriate.

  • Maintain close communication with design engineers to confirm geologic and geotechnical assumptions, and relay any constructability issues that may arise in the field.

  • Perform field quality inspections on construction activities and permanent materials.

  • Document geotechnical conditions encountered, daily work progress, and material quantities installed.

  • Working with suppliers as required facilitating the handling and expediting delivery of materials.

  • Collecting and managing project documentation from the planning stages through project closeout.

What You'll Bring

  • Must have an undergraduate degree in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, geologic science, construction management or related experience before starting this position.

  • Must be willing to travel to project locations across the United States and Canada.

  • Have the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

  • Strong work ethic – willing to do what it takes to get the job done.

  • Have the ability to work individually and as part of a team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Critical thinking skills necessary with the ability to plan ahead and conceptualize.

  • Ability to access remote work sites by travel on helicopter.

  • Walk on uneven and steep hillsides.

  • Ability to climb onto drill platform that is 1’to 6’ off ground.

  • Ability to balance, kneel, crouch, and hike though uneven terrain, occasionally at high altitude.

  • Domestic travel required.

  • Availability for international travel (passport, background, etc.) preferred.

Compensation Range

The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $62,000.00/Yr. - USD $76,000.00/Yr. depending on experience and qualifications.
