Building a Clean Energy Infrastructure

A clean energy future starts with a strong foundation. We're building the infrastructure ( our region needs to deliver clean energy to homes and businesses.

These projects will allow us to connect energy sources to our grid that are better for the environment.

We are one of the nation's leading developers of offshore wind, serving as a catalyst for clean energy throughout the Northeast.

We have at least 4,000 megawatts of total development opportunity in partnership with Orsted, the largest developer of offshore wind in the world. 1,700 megawatts are under contract and in advanced development, including the first utility-scale offshore wind farms for New York and Connecticut.

Our existing projects will provide enough clean energy to power more than 1 million homes, with the ability to double that amount as we add additional projects to our lease area off the coast of New England.

Offshore wind is set to play a critical role in delivering well-paying green jobs and providing local economic investment that will benefit communities throughout the region as the country, and particularly the Northeast, look to meet ambitious clean energy goals.


We're dedicated to raising solar awareness in our territory and connecting our customers' solar generation to the grid.

We have owned and operated solar energy facilities since 2010, and today, our solar portfolio can power more than 11,000 homes.

These sites are estimated to save nearly 36,000 metric tonnes of carbon per year—the equivalent of taking 7,600 cars off the road. Four of our solar facilities are located on landfill or brownfield sites, which have few alternative uses.

Storing Energy for Future Use

We're developing innovative battery energy storage projects that will help defer traditional infrastructure investments and store renewable energy for peak hours.

Using batteries to store power can improve reliability, help manage demand and reduce the need to build new power lines.

We're the first utility in Massachusetts to receive approval from the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) for grid-scale energy storage and we are currently constructing the first project in Provincetown on Cape Cod.

We are evaluating additional projects in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire for the future.

Clean Energy advancements include:

Rapidly advancing our goal of enabling 3,500 electric vehicle charging ports across Massachusetts through a $45 million investment in infrastructure.

Construction is underway on a state-of-the-art battery energy storage facility in Provincetown, Massachusetts that will improve power quality and reliability for customers on outer Cape Cod and will defer the need to build an additional power line in the area.

Remaining the nation’s #1 Energy Efficiency Provider, investing more than $585 million in 2020 to help customers save 950 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and 9.6 million therms of natural gas. These energy efficiency solutions generated over $200 million in annual customer cost savings.

Identifying operational areas that offer us the greatest opportunity to reduce emissions, as well as developing a governance structure that will help measure and advance progress toward Eversource’s industry-leading vision to be carbon neutral from operations by 2030.
