JOB SUMMARY:

Plant McDonough Combined Cycle is currently seeking highly skilled multidiscipline candidates for a General Plant Operator (GPO) position to operate & maintain our combined cycle power plant in Atlanta, GA. The duties of a General Plant Operator include operating, monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairing the electrical and mechanical equipment utilized in operating a combined cycle power plant. This position helps maintain plant equipment in optimum operational condition and documents maintenance records in a computer-based work order system, Maximo. Other duties include equipment ownership and various tasks associated with operations and maintenance.

Job Requirements: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)

Job Experience:

  1. Must have a HS Diploma or Equivalent

  2. Must pass the Georgia Power GPO qualification test at the CC level

  3. Previous Power Plant experience preferred

  4. Combined Cycle Power Plant operations experience preferred

  5. Experience in industrial electrical/mechanical/I&C or certified training desired

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude required

  2. Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills required

  3. Previous Operations experience a plus

  4. Instrumentation and Controls experience a plus

  • Ability to support a 24/7-365 work schedule including holidays

  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with work management software preferred

  • Must be a Self-starter, be highly motivated, and require minimal supervision

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain three 2 on 1 Combined Cycle units and 2 Pratt-Whitney FT4 twin pack units

  • Comply with all laws, regulations and policies applicable to operating a power generating facility

  • Electrical and mechanical maintenance of all plant equipment to include Gas and Steam turbines, Heat Recovery Steam Generators, Electrical Generators, Electrical breakers, switches and other devices as well as motors, valves and pumps

  • Utilizing control system logic interface to troubleshoot operational issues

  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure

  • Function as an SME for your system/equipment in the Equipment Owner role

  • Clearly communicate complex issues to management, vendors and external personnel in order to resolve problems quickly and effectively
