Alliant Energy Line Technician - Journey Level Only in Sheboygan, Wisconsin

5411BRJob Responsibilities:

  • Sets, guys and frames poles, towers, and other structures.

  • Installs, splices, and secures conductors.

  • Installs and maintains transformers, conductors, regulators, breakers, switches, fuses, street lighting equipment, lightning arrestors, etc.; (overhead and underground).

  • Works on energized lines and equipment.

  • Works with live line maintenance tools.

  • Keeps informed on and abides by the required Safety Rules, Operating Practices and codes pertaining to all phases of line work.

  • Maintains proper line clearances.

  • Trims trees.

  • May lead and assist in training others in the same or lower classifications.

  • Performs other duties which are similar, related or incidental to this position.

    Working Conditions -

Varied outdoor work, involves a great deal of climbing, sometimes under disagreeable weather conditions at hours conforming with the Union Agreement.

Alliant Energy is looking for two Line Technicians to serve Sheboygan, Wisconsin and support neighboring rural communities. Our crews play a critical role in providing consistent, reliable service to homes and businesses within our territory. This position will be filled at the journey level.

Our crews are made up of experienced leads, journey level and apprentices, are supported by strong leadership and have a trusted commitment to safety and ethics. We have a dedicated safety team that supports our crews and each employee is provided training and development to succeed, empowering them to grow and advance. Alliant Energy offers excellent benefits and competitive pay. You will work with our team to do new construction, maintain existing facilities and respond to outages.

  • The core schedule for this position is Monday- Friday 7:00am- 4:30pm

  • This position is​​​ responsible for taking after-hours emergency calls, responding to outages and trouble calls on the distribution system and customer services.

  • This position has a residency requirement of 20 minutes from headquarters.

Job Category:Line Maintenance/Technician Job Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License.

  • Successful completion of line technician apprenticeship.

  • Satisfactory passage of line technician examination.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good reading comprehension, mathematics skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to do ordinary line construction, operating and maintenance work, line trouble shooting and transformer installation including three-phase and parallel banking.

  • Reasonable knowledge of work order procedure and allocation of charges.

  • Knowledge of the requirements of the State Electrical Code and company standards for line construction.

  • Familiarity with live line maintenance tools and their use.

  • Thorough knowledge of the Company Safety Rules and Operating Practices relating to line construction and maintenance.

  • Ability to write clearly and concisely, make understandable diagrams, ability to express oneself verbally.

  • The ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.

  • Sensitivity to public opinion and property owner's rights.

  • Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group.

    *Note: This job is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug and alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40 and 199), and is subject to drug testing according to said regulations.
