Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe, reliable and affordable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration, maintenance, and emergency response.

The Project Governance & Reporting Department (within the Integrated Planning, Governance and Reporting Organization) is the functional lead for supporting all of Gas Operations internal clients who manage a $1.5 billion+ project portfolio at Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

Project Governance & Reporting collaborates to provide the following services: project / program management governance, Monte Carlo and risk simulation on projects and the portfolio, reporting and dashboards, compliance reporting, interfacing with the outside stakeholders and government agencies including our regulators.

Position Summary

The ideal candidate will have the ability to lead teams or projects, show initiative and enthusiasm, and have strong interpersonal skills.

He/She will have a good understanding of gas operations, have strong analytical or project management skills, and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively across functional areas. He/she will coordinate with several groups within Gas Operations to ensure all stakeholders are aligned. This position reports to the Project Governance and Reporting Supervisor and contributes toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability for one or more asset families and or process flows.

He or She will be responsible for:

Operational Reporting: Collect, validate, and analyze data for a range of metrics and reports. These include Executive level project and portfolio analysis leveraging SAP, P6 and FCC (Financial Change Control) data, as well as other project level metrics for internal and external parties including the CPUC.

Strategic Data Analysis: Fulfill of ad-hoc requests for workstream execution and inter-departmental related data analyses. Liaise with work streams, asset managers, contractors, and process owner business partners to ensure that information is gathered on time and presented appropriately for various risk analysis meetings and or leadership meetings. Actively participate in leadership team meetings and provide input.

Other Duties: Compile, validate and maintain a wide range of program information. Track and monitor action items or milestones, assist in meeting notes and minutes, assist with calendaring activities. Present findings and recommendations to upper management.



  • Bachelor of Science in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering or related discipline or equivalent work experience required.

  • 4 years of related work experience


  • Masters degree in business, finance, economics, engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience.

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel, Excel Macros, SAP, Tableau, Visio or similar software.

  • Ability to analyze large data sets and provide guidance.

  • Adaptable to changing business conditions and ambiguity.

  • Presentation skills to convey findings to varied audiences.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments with demanding time constraints.

  • Experience with Tableau, Power BI or other data visualization tools.

  • Intermediate excel skills including pivot tables and graphing.

  • Able to adjust to changing business needs, conditions and work responsibilities while meeting challenging deadlines.

  • Broad knowledge of the procedures, methodologies, tools and deliverables required for comprehensive reporting and business analysis.

  • Works well in team environment and can collaborate with all levels of business.

  • Ability to develop visual management reports and dashboards.

  • Ability to prioritize, plan, perform and effectively communicate activities both in written and verbal form.

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.


  • Performs standard data analysis tasks and works with existing data models.

  • Pulls data to populate standard reports. Presents data and findings to senior leadership or internal clients.

  • Tracks existing metrics while collaborating with line of business stakeholders and validating results.

  • Assists other business analysts using established processes, practices and procedures as directed.

  • Communicates with peers inside and outside of the department, providing information or exchanging data.

  • Participates in special projects of varying scope and complexity with other members of the team.

  • Meets with business partners to compile and review metric data for operational reporting and confirm underlying data.

  • Supports management of day-to-day activities of Governance and Reporting as required.

  • Contribute toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability for Gas Operations.
