Department Overview

The Gas Safety Excellence (GSE) program was created in 2011 as a model upon which the Gas Operations business realigned its operating model around. Since then the GSE team has led the drive to create the first utility in the United States to be certified to PAS55-1 and ISO 55001 standards, an achievement accomplished in 2014, and also the first utility to receive a certificate of compliance against API 1173 in November of 2015. In 2016, Gas Operations received certification for Responsible Care RC14001.

The role of the GSE team is to act as the central program oversight of all Gas improvements and to facilitate the systematic identification and closure of gaps through partnership with the Gas organization as well as a diverse business partner support community. The standards, dictated by PAS55, ISO55001, API 1173, and RC14001 are routinely tested by independent 3rd party auditors and the GSE team is responsible for managing these important visits, coordinating appropriate interviews, facilitating field visits but most importantly preparing the organization for assessment.
