Core Gas Supply (CGS) is part of Energy Policy and Procurement whose mission is to develop and implement the company's energy policy and to ensure the procurement and delivery of safe and reliable gas and electric service to our customers.
CGS procures and manages natural gas supplies, transportation and storage for Pacific Gas and Electric Company's Core (residential and small commercial) customers. CGS strives to ensure reliable gas supplies while minimizing gas costs and measures its performance through its annual Core Procurement Incentive Mechanism (CPIM). CGS participates in the complete supply chain from Planning, Regulatory approval, Trading, Analytics, Risk Management, Compliance and Reporting.
CGS is also responsible for financial hedging activities to manage customers' price risk and optimized assets associated with PG&E’s Core Gas portfolio.
Gas Scheduling: Schedule physical natural gas on interstate and intrastate pipelines. Schedule injections into and withdrawals from all gas storage facilities. Monitor scheduled volumes on all pipelines through all scheduling cycles. Update schedules for cuts and operational flow orders.
Actualization: Actualize gas volumes in the gas management system for all supply receipts and for all market deliveries. Maintain accurate daily delivery records for each counterparty and transaction. Support Settlements to ensure accurate billing and reconciliation. Manage storage and market center gas inventories.
Position Tracking and Imbalance Management: Monitor daily and monthly portfolio imbalances. Monitor and report out on supply cuts, pipeline restrictions, storage inventory and operational flow orders. Track supply positions and take appropriate corrective actions with suppliers and pipelines to optimize performance.
Communicate Portfolio Status: Keep the team current on pipeline status, pipeline maintenance and supplier non-performance. Recommend strategies and corrective actions to traders to manage outages and maximize pipeline throughput and supplier performance to meet daily portfolio demand. Monitor pipeline market activities including capacity release and open seasons.
You must be willing and able to be on call on weekend on a rotational basis (one out of four weekends).
Schedule all relevant pipelines in the U.S. and Canada.
Provide guidance and training to new schedulers.
Monitor pipeline operations including planned and unplanned pipeline maintenance and anticipates their impact on scheduling and portfolio position.
Resolve minor transaction or contract disputes with minimal oversight and input from manager.
Resolves scheduling disputes and escalated billing issues without assistance from a manager.
Participate in gas scheduling implementation of new internal and external systems and tools.
Ensure complex transactions are pathed and actualized in deal capture systems for settlement purposes, with no oversight.
Provide trading back-up and weekend on-call as needed and allowed by the Transaction Control Authority (TCA).
Contribute to work teams and process improvement efforts outside of scheduling
- 3 years of gas scheduling experience
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, engineering, or related discipline; or equivalent experience
Gas scheduling experience in the West Coast
Demonstrated ability in managing multiple priorities simultaneously to meet critical deadlines in time-sensitive environment
Demonstrated strong Micro Excel and VBA skills
Strong communications and teamwork skills
Understanding of the wholesale natural gas and electricity markets
Familiarity with PG&E’s Core Gas Supply portfolio
Accounting background or experience
OpenLink (Endur) knowledge or experience
Database SQL knowledge or experience
Understanding provisions of industry standard master agreements including: NAESB, ISDA, NGSA and GTSA.
Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory issues and an understanding of CPUC, FERC, and CEC, and other regulatory rules and requirements as they apply to the gas and electric industries
