Grid Integration and Innovation’s (GII’s) mission is to design, test, and integrate innovative solutions to accelerate PG&E’s transition to the sustainable grid of the future. GII is also responsible for developing the regulatory framework that will enable PG&E to succeed in a future where distributed energy resources are deeply integrated into the electricity grid. To meet these goals, the Energy Storage Strategy Implementation Group (ESSI) leads PG&E’s activity in storage policy issues in the regulatory arena which includes the CPUC and CEC. ESSI guides planning and commercial strategy for energy storage, prepares, tracks and serves as a clearinghouse for energy storage information, reporting both internally and externally, as well as providing technical and policy input for energy storage legislation. ESSI also serves as the internal knowledge center for energy storage technologies and market trends. The team works across lines of business at PG&E to develop comprehensive strategies and policies using effective project management, benchmarking, prototyping and ideating.
The Principal will be responsible for contributing to the design and development of PG&E’s comprehensive energy storage strategy. The Principal will also be responsible for designing, developing and tracking various strategic initiatives to position PG&E as a strong participant in the energy storage field. The Principal will participate in, scope, and manage cross-functional initiatives. The Principal will also have a key role in helping meet PG&E’s energy storage goals by contributing to the development of PG&E owned storage projects as a subject matter expert.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to apply analytical tools, methodologies, and frameworks to business or policy issues. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate excellent communication skills in executive and regulatory settings.
Designs and develops regulatory and commercial strategies or policy positions.
Leads identification, development, implementation, and resolution of issues associated with complex, cross-functional strategy and policy matters at PG&E.
Leads PG&E-wide work streams, acting as a thought leader applying extensive unique subject matter expertise in the development of strategy or resolution of complex issues.
Researches emerging regulatory issues and emerging policy issues.
Leads and manages teams and major cross-functional initiatives.
Leads business process improvements for analysis or advocacy activities.
Represents ESSI on cross-organizational working teams within PG&E.
Negotiates and advocates on behalf of PG&E in regulatory forums and interactions with external stakeholders.
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Business, Economics, Marketing, Psychology, or related experience.
Minimum of 10 years of experience, proven track record in Regulatory Relations, Finance, or other relevant department.
MBA or equivalent graduate degree highly desired.
Strong drive for results and continuous improvement
Strong verbal / written communication and presentation skills
Proficiency with Word, Excel, Power Point and MS Project
Ability to work in a matrixed environment and a positive, execution oriented mentality
Ability to be creative, versatile, efficient and productive in the face of ambiguity
Technical understanding of overall electric grid design and operations
Strong knowledge of Distribution system design and operations
Utility experience and/or project development experience
Prior experience with energy storage technologies, use cases and operational capabilities
