The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary:

As a key member of the Program Development and Delivery team, this position provides critical methods of planning, execution and ongoing battery storage performance monitoring processes and procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation of the assets. Coordinates across internal PG&E teams and vendors to provide performance improvement services and ensures they are knowledgeable of improvement opportunities.

The Operations Performance Manager will be responsible for providing escalation support for Tesla/FOC, regular performance monitoring of the asset, assessing asset performance trends, and vendor SLA reporting. Use best practices, analysis, market intelligence, governance, and research to improve performance and efficiency of Materials, while also reducing costs. Collaborate to plan engagement objectives and a strategy that addresses risk and performance improvement.

This includes:

  • On-going Monitoring & Troubleshooting Oversight: Assess BESS performance via PI screens. Document and resolve issues with vendor, FOC, ATS, etc.​4+ Building Vendor SLA Reports by tracking alarms/notifications from Tesla and the timing/notifications.

  • Planned Outages, Unplanned Outages, and Coordinating Maintenance: Submit outage request via Power Gen AFW and coordinate with vendor and Sub maintenance​.

  • Coordinates resolution of outages that Tesla/FOC are unable to resolve in real-time.

  1. Critical (Immediate outage)

  2. High (<24 hours to outage)

  3. Medium (<14 days to outage)

  4. Low (>14 days)

  • Tracks Equipment Outages from start to end.

  • Coordinates RCA (Root Cause Analysis) of recurring faults/alarms on the PG&E team. Work with Tesla and/or SM&C on repeating or unknown issues.

  • Collaborates with Asset Strategy & Management on planned maintenance activities including working with the Power Generation Outage Coordinator and Substation Maintenance and Construction to develop a 1 to 5-year plan.

Performance Reporting: Prepare monthly revenue & performance report​

  • Reports efficacy of Asset to respond to market commands and availability. Work with STES and Tesla on identified trends and issues.

  • Reporting Asset metrics (e.g. health, status, maintenance costs, etc.) including coordinating with other teams to collect necessary data/reports (SM&C, System Protection, FOC, Tesla).

  • Annual Performance Testing: Coordinate with vendor and ATS on annual performance testing in accordance with the LTPMA. Approve payments​.Coordinates annual Performance Testing with Tesla and ATS as per the LTPMA contract. Approve payments.

  • Cost Accounting: Track PG&E and vendor maintenance costs throughout life of contract​.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Recommends improvements in solving human performance issues and performance improvement processes. Implements corrective action programs, instructional technology programs, and coordinates continuous performance improvement support programs.

  • Works with Substation Maintenance & Construction to build/revise procedures and clearance notifications.

Supports the following activities led by others:

  • Optimization of asset market participation and bidding strategy

  • NERC/CASIO compliance review

  • Creation and review of documentation/standards

  • Software/Firmware Upgrades/Patching activity

  • Qualifications

  • Minimum:

  • Ability to travel up to 20% throughout northern and central CA, to include some overnight travel on a limited basis

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of related experience.

  • 10 years of job-related experience (i.e. project/product/program development, preferably in a matrixed environment)

  • Experience working in a regulated environment.

  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local regulations and laws related to energy storage.

  • Desired:

  • Knowledge of energy/utility project management methods, financial planning/budgeting and contracting.

  • Knowledge of engineering concepts, terminology, processes.

  • Understanding of California ISO and utility regulation and ability to advocate policy positions.

  • Knowledge of environmental permitting processes.

  • Understanding of electric transmission planning, operations and/or construction.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to present critical information to senior leadership.

  • Collaboration, influence and strong negotiation skills to effectively gain agreement from various audiences.

  • Good relationship management skills.

  • Team Leadership skills.
