Department Overview

The Grid Integration and Innovation (GII) organization’s mission is to design, test and integrate innovative solutions to accelerate PG&E’s transition to the sustainable grid of the future. 

The Integrated Grid Planning & Strategic Projects department evaluates and pilots cutting edge grid operations with the potential to play a key role in building PG&E’s vision of an Integrated Grid Platform, where the grid is a platform connecting devices that produce and consume energy in a way that supports achieving California’s energy policy goals.

Position Summary

The Product Manager, Expert within the Strategic Projects team is responsible for managing cross-functional strategic projects or initiatives in order to inform Company positions on emerging DER-related issues, influence policy, and drive process improvements that enhance the integration of DERs into PG&E’s “grid of the future”. This position supports the Company’s mission to safely and reliably deliver affordable and clean energy to our customers and communities every single day, while building the energy network of tomorrow through:

  1. Facilitating integration of customer-focused DER projects, delivering strategic value for PG&E and improving customer satisfaction

  2. Driving complex decisions on distributed technology deployment with data through comprehensive planning analysis and pilot projects

  3. Building industry partnerships to promote collaboration, data sharing and best practice sharing

  4. Initiating and partnering on new or enhanced Company processes that integrate DERs into planning, operations and investment processes while minimizing utility costs

  5. Supporting the development of standards that integrate new technologies with PG&E’s transmission and distribution grid operations

Job Responsibilities

  • Leads complex, cross-functional projects or initiatives.

  • Translates Company strategy to implementation, including thoughtful management of scope, schedule, cost, and timing.

  • Works with Managers, Directors, and subject matter experts at all levels and across functions to influence decisions.

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with business units and external agencies.

  • Complete administrative aspects of management role in timely fashion (e.g. OKRs, performance reviews, mandatory training, work portfolio reviews, etc.).

  • Represents the organization in public workshops, conferences, regulatory forums, etc., where appropriate.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business or equivalent experience

  • 8 years of relevant experience

  • 5 years of electric utility related experience

  • Understanding of Federal and State regulations related to electric utility operations

  • Up to 10% of travel requirements


  • MBA or Masters of Science in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering, or other technical degree

  • Experience in analysis, quantitative, 2 years

  • Customer-facing business experience with accountability for delivering on customer expectations, 2 years

  • Experience in project management

  • Experience in vendor management, including scoping, sourcing, and project delivery

  • Knowledge of industry relevant best practices and trends

  • Understanding of electric system operations and engineering principles

  • Knowledge of state and federal regulatory requirements

  • Process improvement knowledge and skill including ability to identify issues and opportunities

  • Strategic decision making and problem solving skills

  • Change management knowledge and skill in addition to ability to take initiative and drive results

  • Strong results-orientated principles
