* *Department Overview

The Enterprise Risk and Operational Risk Management (EORM) organization is responsible for enabling the business to effectively manage risk in key areas of the enterprise. EORM organization is charged with overseeing all operational risk management related to PG&E’s operations and public safety including evaluating risks associated with wildfires, nuclear, dams, natural gas, cyberattacks and natural disasters.

* *Position Summary

This position will serve as Analysis and Modeling Risk Analyst, Expert, in the EORM department. This position reports to the Sr Manager, Enterprise & Operational Risk Quantification, and provides risk management support for the enterprise in modeling and measuring risk and risk reduction through appropriate quantitative methods and data analysis; validating operational risk models and risk mitigation analysis and identifying gaps and potential solutions; evolving analytical models and systems used for enterprise and operational risk quantification; and helping continue to embed data-driven risk management into the company’s fundamental business processes.

The ideal candidate will also have strong knowledge of probability and statistics, strong programming skills and analytical problem-solving skills, operational risk analysis expertise, project management experience and effective communication skills.

* *Responsibilities:

  • Provides necessary modeling and analytical support to LOBs in specifying risk model and risk spend efficiency inputs and running through the enterprise risk models.

  • Validates enterprise and operational risk models and their inputs, identifying gaps and areas for improvements

  • Improves and updates existing risk model inputs with new data and requirements

  • Design and implement new features or capabilities to existing enterprise risk tools and templates

  • Analyze risks and effectiveness of mitigation programs

  • Ensure all model enhancements are functional and have not impacted any current functionality

  • Version control of the existing risk inputs, models, and outputs (ensuring verifiability and repeatability of results and a good documentation on the changes and differences between different versions)

  • Diagnose model errors, make recommendations for remediation and implement the fixes

  • Implement tools and processes to improve quality and timeliness of risk analysis

  • Performs review of risk models and scenario analysis

  • Support the EORM activities as needed

* *Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s in Information Systems, Business, Engineering, Financial Engineering, Economics, Statistics, or Mathematics, or equivalent experience

  • 7 years of experience in analytical methods and modeling


  • Master’s or PhD degree in Information systems, business, engineering, reliability engineering, financial engineering, economics, statistics, data science, decision science, computer science, quantitative analysis, or other equivalent fields

  • Proficiency with python (especially Pandas & Numpy packages)

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (including VBA)

  • Experience with model documentation and validation

  • Strong knowledge of probability, statistics and risk analysis

  • Previous exposure to modeling and measuring of operational risk relevant to a gas and electric company will be a plus

  • Experience in probabilistic risk analysis, reliability engineering, data science, risk management

  • Strong data visualization skills and techniques for communicating risk-related data in a clear and visually compelling manner

  • Strong problem-solving skills
